I've read most of the online information on the new Hevi-X shotshells which mainly consisted of blasting the manufacturer, EnvironMetal, for past real and fabricated transgressions. Has anyone tried/evaluated this new load ? I shoot a H&K, SBE w/ a Patternmaster ported/extended for ducks and geese over open water and fields and have shot tungsten loads since my days as a "field tester" for Federal and introduction to the "old" Tungsten-Iron high velocity shells. The Hevi-X utilizes a molded tungsten pellet w/ a weight of @9.7 g/cc and velocity >1400 fps which approximates the kinetic energy of the old lead waterfowl loads.

I patterned the 20 ga Hevi X 4s at 20 and 40 yards out of a Nova 20 ga and an 11-87 20 ga. Stock IC chokes. Both pretty well had all the shot in a 24" circle at 20 yards. At 40 there were about 100 in the 30 inch circle.
Looks to be fine by me, however the 40 yard pattern had a very tight core and then kind of a Halo effect for both.
For what it's worth, I got a denser and more uniform pattern from drylok 3s.
I was kind of hoping the increased density will allow for more penetration bu time will tell. 3 weeks til the opener!!!!

HeviSteel was gooder stuff then they cheapened it up into something stupid

oh well, they are trying to save money I guess and wind up screwing a good load up

this HeviX in 20ga I would really like to try out on some ducks and geese.

anyone know if these are roll crimp or star?
