Preserving a pliable fan

Post by GMaxson »

I'd like to preserve a fan to stay pliable. What I've been doing is cleaning, soaking in Coleman fuel for an hour and then a dusting of borax. Even with just a dusting of borax it still stiffens up pretty good. Is just Coleman fuel enough to remove the fat and preserve the skin or is there a different process I should be using?

As long as there is skin attached it will stiffen up. Coleman fuel just removes the oils. Why would you eant the fan to remain pliable?

Seem to have figured it out.

1 hour in coleman fuel. Dry. 2 hours in a mixture of deet and Borax. Most important part is making sure to get all the fat and meat off the quills since if you don't they will stick together and not allow you to spread the fan.

I geranlly just put borax on them and then work them as the dry every couple days. Mine seems to work fine
