Turkey Contest

Post by Gobbler »

The idea of a laid back Turkey contest was brought up. If by next January we have enough interest I think it would be fun.
I have a gentleman on this site that wants to head it up and put together the guide lines and rules.

I am very excited to see what he comes up with.

We will keep everyone posted.

You can bring a gun but no shells, or visa-versa.

I'll bring grilled, fried, and smoked turkey. Got a lot of Jakes taking up freezer space.

Over a hundred members already. I think we'll have a contest next year. Would like to run some ideas by ya'll. My main goal is to have the most even contest we can put together with no loaded teams. Loaded teams ruin the whole concept of a just for fun contest. How I can do this is, is to have everyone add up all the Turkeys they shot the last 3 years, and divide by 3 for an average. So when you join the contest you put down your average score. From there it should be fairly easy to set teams by points. The higher scoring guys will be divided up among the amount of teams we have enterred. My long term goal, if the teams are even is to keep the same teams together every year, so it's easier to do the contest. I don't see any reason to change the scoring that we've been doing in the other contests. Would like to have a panel of experienced guys, not in the contest, to make official rulings on photos when needed. Any other ideas?

 Only in Iowa. Actually the biggest I've ever seen enterred in quite a few years is a around 27/28, and not many of those. My family has put down quite a few big Iowa Toms, but our biggest so far is 27.50, so those turdy pounders are a bit rare.
