The One Day

I wake up actually excited to deer hunt.. Today is opening day of MI firearm "deer waiting season".. Its a holiday here, schools close, small towns such as mine's population quadruples for a couple days, Remington's even made a commercial about the day in regards to the next small town to the north of me.. We have dang near 1 mil rifle hunters in our state..Our quality of antlers is horrible, but I do not believe any state besides maybe PA has the lore regarding this day as MI. It sounds like a warzone, to hear 4-5 hundred shots is pretty common in morning..

I have an elevated tower stand with insulation, heat, office chairs etc.. But this year I am going back to my roots and sitting on a green pickle bucket.. I am sitting a spot I have never sat for the opener.. An amazing funnel with a rub every 2 feet and scrape every other white pine.. Sal had a 150 inch 8 point at 25 yards in this spot last year later in the season.. The Optima Elite is loaded with the T7 and Barnes as I would rather shoot a muzzy than a rifle anymore. If I smoke a big un, I will let you all know..

Well it was everything it could have been.. Saw some does.. At 9 had a forky walk out at 125.. 1 min behind him I saw a buck that went beyond his ears.. Due to the impromptu hunt I had no lanes and the ferns I didnt want the shot.. He walked up my shooting alley to 75 yards and never gave me nothing but a front on shot.. I elected to wait for him to turn broadside and in one second he was out of my shooting lane.. I would say a 18 inch 8 with 8-9 G2s.. A very respectable buck for here.
