So, I'm sittin in my blind yesterday, just before dusk, 5 does and 1 6 pt. buck come out into the field 50 yds to my right, had another doe in front of me 15 yds, which made for an interesting situation! All the windows are open in my blind and I'm sure they could hear my heart beat as they were all staring at me.
Anyways, the mature doe kept throwing her head up in the air as if she was taking a big inhale, musta did it 10-15 times, had she winded me? I assume that's the case. what say the experts? BTW- she never came any closer, just stood there for 20 mins staring in my direction.
What was this doe doing?
Re: What was this doe doing?
Alot of times deer try to act like they are going to feed and then jerk their head up to catch something moving. It's almost like they are deking you to move. Thats the only thing I could think of.

Sounds like she new something wasn't right and she was trying to catch wind of it. If she had of caught your scent I don't think she would have been there for 20 minutes.

i agree. sounds like she was trying to catch a scent. i wouldn't think she was trying to spot you visually by what vaturkey said. due to the fact that they rely heavily on smell and hearing. I could be wrong tho. but i do think she was sniffing around trying to see what smelled like salt block and apples.
then again, you were only 15 yards...all could be right.

I agree with the scent and trying to catch movement from her reaction.Turkey Talker wrote:i agree. sounds like she was trying to catch a scent. i wouldn't think she was trying to spot you visually by what vaturkey said. due to the fact that they rely heavily on smell and hearing.
