What is the deal to this 20ga Madness
Just packing my gear this morn while waiting for Grizz.
Just as I grabbed the gun case to head out of the gun room, I looked over at my ole Stoeger, as If it were a lonesome puppy wanting to go for a car ride or something.
I have all of these guns to take for turkeys, but not for one minute, did I wonder,... Which one will I take today???
I know why I took it a few weeks ago,.... Just to say I Killed one with it, and to see just how lethal it was compared to the "Big" guns. Now that 4 have been dispatched, I'm still reaching for it,.......
WHY????? I can't figure it out.

Took me a while to join in the madness, but its gonna be hard to ever go back to the 12. Also gonna be hard to ever go back to an auto when I've got a sxs that gives you a choice of chokes. I love having a turkey gun that I know would kill one at 50 yds, but also has a huge 25 yd killing pattern. And a joy to carry at 5-2.
Is that enough reasons?

Lol,i have the same problem.Every year i grab the sp10,just because.I killed one and now i have the 20 in the truck for the next one, with an 1187 sm and aimpoint 9000 on it dialed in with fed hw 7's,plus 2 other guns set up for turkey that never make it to the woods.I think i need an ithaca thumbhole turkey slayer to add to the maddness.

I want an 1100 20ga to go with my 870....Why? I guess because I can
Re: What is the deal to this 20ga Madness
Im here to tell ya folks that I dont believe I will ever take a 12 Ga turkey huntin again unless something happens to my 20 Ga. That little M2 will flat out wreck a gobblers head ! I am a die hard believer in the 20 Ga.

I've been hunting srtictly with a 20ga for the last dozen or so years .
With the chokes and shells we have today there is no reason to tote the old heavy weights .

Not a 20, but I'm loving my ultra light 12 ga O/U. I run 1.625 oz TSS in one barrel and 1.25 oz Pb 7.5s in the other, so it might as well be a 20. I doubt my 12 ga 1187 will see much more action. Sure is more fun to carry a 6.75# gun than an 8.75# one, especially if the light one will still get it done to 60 or so.

You ain't kiddin about it floating Gil. It only weighs 5 and a half lbs, and most of that weight is in the reciever and stock. The barrel end is crazy light, and moves very easy. I found out the hard way a couple of weeks ago. Called in a textbook turkey a few weeks back to 25 freakin yds. Had the bead on him for several mins while he strutted around my deke. LOL, I was already deciding to clean him whole or just filet the breast out. Geeeez, I jerked/flinched the trigger so bad, I actually saw the bead come off the bird before it fired. cause it was so light in the front, it moved way more than if it were a heavier gun. No excuse though. I am making myself shoot it more like a rifle since then,...lolGLS wrote:Easy. It floats like a butterfly and stings like a bee.
Hal, just ship that little gun over here, and I'll give her a whirl. You have already killed plenty with it this year anyway. Time for you to get the 410 out now. Lily is coming back for our final weekend, so I'll have to relinquish her 20.
Mike, that made me laugh. That was good,...lol

My first gobbler was with a 20g
Got rid of them. Cause i have 12g slug barrels that i have more fun playing with.

These lightweights are so nice to carry and with capabilities well past forty, the question is why carry anything larger or heavier. There are some light 12s that I would tote using TSS.
