You Gotta Love it When a Plan Comes Together
Grizz called me yesterday, wanting to know If I was going this weekend,...lol. I said, you got that right, after all the turkeys I heard in the morn.
We talked it over, and he decided he would give the ole bird by the lake bridge a try. He is always in a field by the highway, but there is no where to park, and no way to slip in there without being seen.
He got in there early, like 4:30, just so he was in complete darkness. LOL,... Full Moon.
Thank god the bird roosted back in the woods. Ten minutes after gobbling, it was history.
I went after the bird I heard gobbling his head off at the Check Station. Went in last eve to try to roost him, but never heard him fly up or gobble. Decided to just set up where I heard him gobbling yesterday in the corner of a field not 200yds from the station. Went in way before daylight, cause I figured he was close by. Gobbling time came and went. Nothing. I hit a few yelps and nothing.
Finally yelped and gobbled. All of a sudden, i hear a turkey take off flying. Crap!!
LOL, the dang bird had roosted 75 yds from the station in a huge pine, and flew straight across the field to me. He landed in range, but couldn't see him good. He sees my little Jake doing his thing, and came storming down there. 25 yds, and Lily's little Benelli barked,.... Game over!!
LOL, I texted Grizz to say Bird Down, and 5 minutes later, he texted back, Bird Down,...lol
We were less than a mile apart as a crow flies, and done before 6:15. Just love it when turkeys do what you want them to do.
Grizz's bird was a heavyweight at over 23lbs, with the most hooked spurs I ever seen at 1 1/4"
It measured out at 71".
My bird was another double beard, and measured out at a little over 80"
Here is a pic of two happy campers!!

Awesome, and congrats y'all! I'm taking off and going to try to roost one this evening, and hopefully get to him before the rain starts tomorrow.

Tim, where is that pic of Leah??? I want to see her Longbeard from this morn.
Re: You Gotta Love it When a Plan Comes Together
I put it on the kill thread. I'm waiting for the video to get ready so I can post everything about the hunt at once. I was proud of her. We were moving when these birds gobbled. No time for decoys, blind or anything. She made a 38 yard shot through the woods. We thought she missed but the bird flopped up under a stick and made no noise. Crazy morning to say the least.Shooter wrote:Thanks everyone, it was a great morn to hunt,... too bad it was over so quick.gophert wrote:Those WMA birds are studs!!!!!! Congrats to you both!

It looked like she hit pretty good. There were a few in the breast, but there was blood spewing out of that birds head.

Lol, I don't know about all of that JR.jrseale82 wrote:You are nominated for turkey hunter of the year!
You need to get you butt over here and help me out a little. We still have two more weekends of hunting plus the rest of this one. Although sat and sun is supposed to be stormy.
I'm only allowed two more birds, but I know where 8 or 9 are still hanging out.
I could always use Lily's tags, cause she is gone to the beach with some friends until after the season,...lol. Just kidding!!

Tommy I would love to come but just dont know if I can swing it this year. There is a very slim chance I might be able to make the last weekend but dont hold a spot for me.
