First Osceola is in the turkey vest!

Was in Florida for Bike Week and decided to do some turkey hunting in Volusia County. Went out this morning and did not hear a peep on the roost. Crow calls, owl hoots, even a fire engine in the distance and no shock gobbles. Moved to another area and after getting situated made a soft call on my slate and thought I heard a distant gobble. After a few minutes of nothing sent out some soft yelps on my diaphragm and this time I definitely heard a gobble. Waited a few minutes and called again and he responded, this time 100 or so yards closer. I got ready but no more gobbles. Called again, nothing. I was just at the disappointment stage when I heard him spitting and drumming off to my left. He came in quietly down the sandy trail and I took the 25 yard shot and quickly claimed my first Osceola Gobbler. He weighed 18.6 lbs with a 9 1/2" beard and 1 3/8" spurs. I was shooting Hevi-Shot 12 ga. 3 1/2" shells with #5 shot. The bird didnt even kick! I was amazed at how black the primaries actually were. There was some spots where there wasn't even a trace of the horizontal white stripes like our Easterns have up in Pennsylvania. A great hunt and the completion of my personal Grand Slam.
