Fall Hunt Finally!

Post by timbrhuntr »

I have had a couple fall michigan tags burning a hole in my pocket since September but have been too busy to get out. Well I was finally able to get out on wednesday and thursday. Wednesday notta but on thursday I had lots off noise of the roost but they went along there merry way opposite to me. At about 1030 I had a flock walk out into a clover field so I ran out into them (need a dog) and got a great break with them flying and running in all directions. I set up and after about a half hour heard momma start to call. I heard a few kee kees so decided to compete. After about 10 minutes or so I saw a couple birds cautiously coming through the clover. They milled around a bit but hung out at about 40 yds and wouldn't come into the woods where I was sitting and calling. Since I had the 20 with some new TSS loads I decided to try the ammo out. Dropped the first at 45 yds. The second stood there head up so I dropped it at 53 yds. Measured the distance on the range finder after awesome ammo.

Some say that fall hunting is boring but this was one of the best hunts I have been on. To hear all the different calls up close like that as the birds were trying to regroup is amazing. Man if you want to hear some awesome turkey talk try a fall hunt.

Sweet! Didn't take you long to fill a couple of tags. Wish I could have got out Fall Hunting, but just too busy right now.

What general area are you hunting ? I hunt a farm in Chelsea in Washtenaw County. I have a tag just in case I get a chance while bow hunting deer.
Put you plans in the nail scarred hands.

Thanks everyone it was a short but fun hunt this fall. I hope deer hunting goes as well.
Hoobilly,
One of the things I like about fall is I can take a hen or two. I would love to make some calls but I use them to make hen decoys. In this fock suprisingly there were 3 toms one with a nice beard I could have shot without breaking them up when they first came into the field. I wanted some hens though for decoys and also to try and call them if I could get a good break. I also saw an almost white hen in another field I can't hunt would love to have got a shot at her.
Redarrow,
I am fortunate to have a good friend that has a great property in Lenawee county and the best part, he lets me hunt it.
