My new Cox trumpet +1

Post by savduck »

I got my Frank Cox coco and ivory trumpet in the other day. He did a great job and it sounds excellent. I also got a trumpet from a call maker I met while attending the Orangburg NWTF banquet that Ricky Padgett of Spring Allure Turkey Calls invited me to. The call makers name is John Dangerfield II. He makes one hell of a little yelper. John can purr on a trumpet. It is something else to hear.

No, Cox comes tapered as does Dangerfield. Dangerfield also has a notch very similar to a Farmer. I do know that John has been over to Zachs a few times. Not sure what Farmer has shown him, but the tip is very similar.

Yes, the notch helps get some rasp in the call. Dangerfield can purr on a trumpet and says the tapered with notch is the only way he can do it.

That Dangerfield trumpet sounds good and seems to run pretty easy. The Cox sounds good too, but it should. Both nice calls.

By the way, is the mouthpiece crooked on that Cox call, or is it just the picture?

I think it's just the picture. I looked at it once last night and thought the same, checked it out pretty good and it's straight.

That Dangerfield draws air really easy. It plays pretty soft. As far as the purring he sent me directions...and I can't do it...yet. He can though and it sounds excellent.

It runs good Ricky. Very easy draw like MKW and Buice.

Man, I'm pumped to be hitting the woods with y'all opening weekend. Andy said he will be in Bamberg opening weekend too. We may have to ride over for a few beers. I'll call you about where the best place to stay is. May end up at camp with Andy.
