Antelope and Pheasants

Post by Hobbes_mobile »

I've tried to put up multiple photos (using Imageshack or the attachment function) of a hunt that I did a couple weeks ago along with the details of each day but something about it hasn't been working. I was able to get these to post as attachment even though it hasn't worked previously. I'll just leave out the details besides saying that I shot roosters two days and an antelope buck the third day. The antelope buck was my first.

Congrats on the antelope and the birds. What is the fourth bird there? The pictures are great as always. What are shooting for the rifle and shotgun?
Great looking dog, as well.
May I assume you're not here to inquire about the alcohol or the tobacco?

The rifle is a Remington 700 SPS in 7mm Rem Mag. However, I replaced the factory trigger and stock recently with a Timney and s Stocky's Accublock. I'm not an especially good shooter and could not get a range on him while belly crawling through the grass, so I missed the antelope and it ran closer to 200 yards where I killed him. A rough score is 71 6/8 inches.

The shotgun is an inexpensive Pointer O/U 20 ga. My dad actually bought it and gave it to us for my left handed daughter to shoot. I like how it feels so I carried it instead of my usual autoloader.

The fourth bird is a sharptail grouse. I should have had a couple more.

Finn went with me and just chilled beside me while I glassed for antelope one evening. He stayed in the box the next morning while I made several different approach attempts on the antelope. I walked back and got him before retrieving the buck. He didn't know what to think when we first approached the dead buck, but decided everything was good after a little inspection.

Outstanding! Sounds like a fun hunt. I have a sister in S.W.Iowa and her husband and I killed a bunch of pheasants over the years. Great fun!
