Love My DSD Jake Decoy

Post by soiltester »

Temp of 38 Tuesday with no gobblin' in my buddies section at all :banghead:
Buddy had to leave at 8 with farmin' commitments and crew ready to head out to do what they could before it was dry enough to plant again.
9:35 the tom came in silent from the east woods and headed straight to the DSD Jake decoy at 22 yds.. I squatted down in the blind and had to shut my hearin' aids off and still could hear him havin' his way with my Jake.
I came up with gun ready and he was mounted on the Jake and both were slowy fallin' back as he lifted his head, and the pic. shows I let him have no mercy.

Thursday am 48 degrees with same set up as buddy saw one in the afternoon in the same area.
Gobblin' like mad at daybreak a ways south so I cranked the call up.
5 mins later, 1 in a tree just to north gobbled. He flew down in the field and a hen flew down from the west woods, same field and fed off to the NE. He slowly made his way in to 60 yds and hung.
He was responding well to the call and the one to the south was also ;)
Well at 7:35, the south one made it 1st and started beating on the decoy, but when he stuck his head up at least 1 1/2 feet over the jakes head, my buddy shut his lights out.
22# 4 oz, 11" beard and 1 1/4" spurs.
He got to the house, cleaned the tom and headed to the field to plant and I headed home.
I'm headed up later in the month next year, to battle with the skeeters  There were very few in the pm when it did warm "some".

Way to go, soiltester! Glad it worked out for you with such a short trip! Congrats.
May I assume you're not here to inquire about the alcohol or the tobacco?

These 2 were lonely, but at least gobbled, but still just about had frost on their snoods

It's going to have to"warm up quickly" for you to enjoy all the thrills, of the last of the late season :stir: :LMAO:

There is no shortage of toms
