What’s Wrong in SW Mo?

Post by Jstocks »

Beautiful day. Walked 10 miles in Mark Twain. Places I’ve heard numerous turkeys before. No sign, no gobbles at daylight, finally heard 2 on private land.

Has there been that big of a population decline here?

I’m in Branson as well on vacation. Just hunting everyday, then doing family stuff in the afternoons and evenings. I’m glad to hear that they were gobbling at dogwood canyon. That gives me some hope.

I only heard one shot today, and it was at one of the 2 turkeys I could hear.

We just got back from the golf cart trail at Top of the Rock. Very nice scenery with the dogwoods and redbuds.

Going to try a new area tomorrow. There was virtually no scratching or any turkey sign found during my walk today.

Jstocks, we're going to Top of the Rock tomorrow. Any tips or things to look for. We're staying at Stony Point. BTW, Morel mushrooms everywhere at Dogwood.

Found some morels today.

It wasn't crowded at top of the rock. The afternoon was enjoyable. If you did Dogwood Canyon, top of the rock is really just a different set of sights.

We are at the Marriott Willow Ridge.

Ditto, it's well documented.

I just read an article that states they have even tried turning more birds out there and they still don't thrive. They don't know why turkeys wont expand in the 2 counties on the southwest corner of the state. Biologist even said there is no scientific reason for the trend and he is kind of taking it personal since they have done everything they know to do and nothing works. surrounding counties do ok.
