Re: Go to Box
Best box I've ever held is a promos heartbreaker. But, I've held dozens of heartbreakers and it is the only good one.

Ralph Snodgrass, this one is maple over persimmon. Only three ever made in this combination, and it gets better every year.

I run a woodhaven Real Hen and love it. Plenty loud and I’ve struck a bunch of birds with it. But you can play it softer if you want. I’ve finished a couple with it too.

Re: Go to Box
I haven’t used a box in years other than a scratch box, but the two I’ve had success with are a woodhaven cherry real hen and a Billy White hustlin hen
Re: Go to Box
Do you intend to use your thumb on top and trigger finger on bottom of the paddle or hold the paddle in between your fingers? It makes a difference on what box.
Many call makers today design and tune the callers for the crab claw style. Never lift the lid and it sounds like the turkey is gasping for air and is usually loud. Hard to call good and quiet with that method.

Yes, I know what you’re saying and will keep that in mind .coconut wrote: ↑March 21st, 2019, 11:04 pmDo you intend to use your thumb on top and trigger finger on bottom of the paddle or hold the paddle in between your fingers? It makes a difference on what box.

Some boxes are better or easier than others for closing the deal I’m sure . So Thats What I’m looking for .... a call that is a good finisher too . Just want another weapon in the arsenal .
Re: Go to Box
Someone on here recommended an allen Jenkins box call not to long ago. They are about the same as the old lynch fool proof and hard to beat for a mid to close in call.

I have a ron clough box and love it. Loud enough to strike yet soft enough to close. Sounds sweet. Couple of friends have bought one after hearing mine and they sound just as good

Re: Go to Box
I have a few but the one that's been working lately is a David Halloran Macassar Ebony over poplar. I've had several times that box has been magic when nothing else out of my vest was getting any love.
Put it in my sons vest last week on his hunt and he pulled it out on a quiet mid morning and all the sudden had one running in. First turkey he's ever called in on his own so that makes it all the more special.

I’m not a huge box fan.
I have a Pappy Lewis long box and it’s helpful striking birds, but I can’t play it soft.
Had good luck with an old HS strut box from bass pro back in the day.
