Thanks to the pioneers of Tss!

Post by chipper »

I received my copy of Turkey Country in the mail today and was reading that Browning now has a TSS load, undoubtedly loaded by Federal and also that Federal has come out with a 7x9 & 8x10 blend and it got me to thinking, I'm glad other hunters can experience the patterns and effectiveness of tss. I will continue to roll my on as long as the good Lord lets me and also got to thinking that if it wasn't for the pioneers of this shot loading, Hal aka" Hawglips", "Tommy aka "Shooter ", Ronny aka "Reloader" and a few others that helped the rest of us get going with this wonderful passion of reloading tss we might all be shooting Federals , so i just want to tell the 3 of them and anyone else that is a pioneer of this shot Thank You! You have done wonders and helped alot of people, You fellows are also the ones I give all credit too for starting a revolution of shot shells, if I have left some names out, I apologize,
These are the 3 I go to with any questions. .

Kyle Smith is the pioneer. Without him TSS might not be where it is today.

I've got a dual wad load that I believe he originated. It's amazing how a shot that other forums banned from being talked about and even did away with a sub forum for reloaders is having to eat there words now, but enough on that, I'm thankful for all that carried on that research and development.

I don't know who loads it, just assumed it was loaded by Federal. According to the article, they are saying a 3.5" 2.5oz. 8x10 and 7x9 blend in 12 gauge and a 1.625 oz. 20 gauge 8x10 and 7x9 blend for 2019. The article is on page 80 of Jan/Feb Turkey country. Good to hear Winchester is getting in on the action too, I'll continue to roll my own, got too much invested now!

Yes, thank you to all of these guys. I have bought shot from Hal and he got me started on some awesome loads and plenty of TSS for turkeys.

The cool thing is I got so into TSS I started using it for deer loads as well. Hal was able to get me setup on that end and some nasty loads as well. I was able to take my second buck on opening day of gun season this year with the shotgun which was an awesome feeling to get something with a personally hand made shell. It was almost as cool as shooting a turkey with a hand made shell but not quite.

My whole family uses hand loaded TSS shells for turkey and deer and we usually will all get together and make our loads for deer season in the early fall and turkey loads during the winter so its made for some memorable times loading shells as well.

Can't thank you guys enough for getting the best shot out there. Now the question is to see how long it will be before TSS takes over the deer hunting world. Proven data for killing deer out to 84 yards with BBs and 118 yards with Ts. I will keep that secret just for us turkey guys for now I guess.

For those of you that shoot tss, is Apex better than Federal loads? Also, would you rather shoot the 7x9 or straight 9's and why?

Definitely straight 9s. All adding 7s to the mix does is take up space that could be filled with lots more 9s. Adding TSS 7s to a turkey shell is akin to adding #2 lead to a 7.5 dove load. Why would you add pellets that could kill a dove at 150 yds if you were lucky enough to put one on target while making it less likely that you will put pellets on target at 40? That example is a little extreme but you get the point.
