Good luck with the contest. I know that you know your Hooters..
May I assume you're not here to inquire about the alcohol or the tobacco?

Well I did enter the Southern Open NWTF sanctioned calling contest. I entered the Gobbling and Owl hooting. I had a great time but I must say I didn't think I'd get so nervous. Also, I want to thank TS, Bigspur and Turkey Talker for showing up and making me more nervous. LOL I learned a lot from this experience and I got some good advise from some of the other competitors.

I actually really enjoyed it after competing. But I learned I have a lot to work on If I want to ever do it again.

I finished 3rd in Owl Hooting with a hooter I bought from the Hooks booth at the convention 2 years ago.
I finished 2nd in Gobbling. I got schooled by Scott Ellis. He won every event except Owl hooting.

All in All good fun. And all the callers were awesome.

Way to go, Doug..Congrats on your calling. I could never do it. My nerves would get the best of me..I have never met Scott Ellis, but I got one of his signature calls from him, and I really like it. It is one of my favorite to use. If you get a chance to try one, do it. They rock..Mike

It was my first time. Those competition guys are in a whole different league. I didn't hear one mistake yesterday. Except my own. :D

Congrats Doug!! I saw the owl routine. You sounded good buddy.

I didn't get to see the gobbling routine, but I've seen it first hand in the middle of nowhere Nebraska on the side of the road and heard the turkeys respond to it then.

Great goin', Doug! I agree, you must be pretty darn good to have placed that high in your first attempt!
