Had To Say Goodbye!

Post by guesswho »

Had to say goodbye to a dear old friend today. Had to take my 15 year old Doberman and have him put to sleep this afternoon. He celebrated his 15th birthday last Monday, that's really old for a Dobe. He had a good day today too. He loved sweet stuff and his bed. Not sure which he loved more but he got to eat sweet stuff all day in bed today. R.I.P. Bodacious Red Bruin, aka BoBo. We're going to miss you dearly!!!!

Brother these posts make me well up, I'm a dog nut. But you know will see him again as you cross the rainbow bridge together. God don't put them here for your whole life but you can be assured you were his whole life. Just don't make same mistake and wait four years to not replace but bring up a new buddy. Be in my prayers.

I am so sorry to hear about your beloved BoBo.. I know how hard it is to lose a beloved dog. I know that he is out of pain and, as Tom said, he just beat you home! Your paths will cross again and until then, the gift of God is the everlasting memories that you and your wife will have of him.. It will take awhile but the time will come when you think of him or mention his name and a smile comes to your face instead of a tear in your eye. I promise you this!!
I love ya, Man....Godspeed..

Aside from losing a human family member, there is no worse heartache than losing a family dog. We've all been there, Ronnie, and we understand how you feel. It's been over 7 years since I put down old Roscoe and I still miss that old boy.
Struggling with the emptiness of losing him, I found a source of writing about losing dogs and grief and one of the most poignant was attributed to Napoleon:

“ ‘This soldier, I realized, must have had friends at home and in his regiment; yet he lay there deserted by all except his dog. I looked on, unmoved, at battles which decided the future of nations. Tearless, I had given orders which brought death to thousands. Yet here I was stirred, profoundly stirred, stirred to tears. And by what? By the grief of one dog .'

Napoleon Bonaparte, on finding a dog beside the body of his dead master, licking his face and howling, on a moonlit field after a battle. Napoleon was haunted by this scene until his own death.” Gil

So sorry to hear Ronnie, sometimes you don't realize just how attached you are to them until they are gone. I lost my beagle dog last summer, had him since he was a pup (15 years) and about a week after he passed my wife tried to get me to get another beagle pup, I told her the ONLY way I would is if she could guarantee me that it would outlive me, they sure are loyal creatures.

Thanks everybody. Definitely not the same around here without Bobo.

If all dogs do indeed go to heaven, I hope my neighbors are dog people when I show up. Because I have a crew waiting for me for sure. Tyke, Blacky, Pooch, Rowdy, Prince, Bandit, Baby, Bowser, Bama, Strut, Lexie (Bo's Mom), Lugar (Bo's Dad), and now Bodacious. I also hope Blue Buffalo is cheaper in heaven. Miss and love you all.
