It's been quite a few years since I hunted Green Swamp but do remember it was a pretty tough hunt.
Early in the season, there were a lot of out-of-state hunters so I'd recommend going later in the year.

This is the brochure I got. It may have changed but I would guess that the map is still pretty accurate
& the info should be as well. At least it's a starting point. Click on the pic & it will display larger.

You do have to watch for rattle emup snakes, Eastern & Pygmy & moccasins & these other bitey critters.
The lil ones were in a pond at the end of a culvert that runs under 1 of the main roads.

I grew up hunting Green Swamp in the 60's to the 80's. Used to be loaded with birds if you were willing to get wet (soaked) and didn't mind putting some miles on your boots. Mosquitos are worse than the snakes and gators. I even saw some type of lizard in there that was a good five feet long (not a gator). Pm me and based on Georges map I'll tell you were I used to kill a limit every year back in the day. May not be any there now, but it used to be loaded. I don't have GPS coords but could get you in the general area with the map.

OK, I'll bite. How did you manage to get bit by a gator? I've been chased a few times, had them all under my canoe, etc., but never even had real close call. And that includes wading in the dark when I could hear them nearby.

I second the part about getting wet in Green Swamp.

He was behind our washer and dryer in pump shed. Couldn't get him to budge thought he was stuck. Got a little close and he bite my arm. Luckily he didn't latch on he just let go. Finally got him to go out the door which we keep shut now.

Bring your snake leggings and snake bite kit too! Lakeland Regional is probably an hour away at best.

I love it when the question is asked about Florida and the snake and alligator pics come out LOL. I hunted 3 years in Texas and 3 in Florida and thankfully the only snake I saw was a dead diamondback on the road !! My second Osceola hunt the bird I shot flopped into the middle of a large drainage ditch full of water about waist high I almost left him there  ;)

Keep an eye on the sky too. Florida’s the lightning capital of the U.S. If the toothy critters don’t get you, lightning just might. Luckily you should miss the start hurricane season. Im sure it will be a blast...

Green Swamp has had over 20" of rain in May, and over 10" in June so far.

I've seen the main road under water from one end to the other before.

I once found a place in a secluded area in Green Swamp that I was convinced was where a Bigfoot lived. Something had beat down a bunch of thick weeds, maybe a 50' circle. In the middle it had gathered up a bunch of weeds and cat-tails and and piled them on broke limbs that were about baseball diameter and made a perfect bed about 2' high, 4' wide and about 8' long. Not that I've seen many, but I thought that was about the right size for a medium sized Bigfoot. It stunk too! I told my Dad about it and he asked me if I'd been smoking that whacky weed  I took him and showed it to him and he said he didn't know what the heck it was but it was time to go :LMAO: To this day I don't know what made it.
