I love it. Gotta get that Thanksgiving bird. I consider a fall gobbler the ultimate trophy

I’m hoping to try it this year. Never done it before because we don’t have a season in Arkansas anymore. I’ll go to Oklahoma or Kansas if I can make it out. I’ll start looking for pointers closer to season.

Looks like Nebraska this fall!!!
Have killed a few fall turkeys here in Indiana. Was ok. But it’s so hot during the first 2 weeks of Oct it’s not fun. Then late season it’s cold and sometimes brutal cold and archery only. Which sucks

I know it’s legal in a lot of places, but I’ll never understand the desire to kill hens. Maybe on rare occassions for wingbone calls.

I love a good fall hunt! Definitely a different challenge to it than spring. Will be out after them with crossbow and shotgun. May even travel to a couple different states.

When I started Turkey Hunting, I only hunted in the Fall, because I was a passionate fisherman. I didn't care for it much, and only did it once after that, to train a youth hunter.

Hope to try fall hunting this year in Oklahoma or Kansas. I don’t really know where to start in the fall. Ive heard some talk about gobbling in the fall, but more that you can’t count on it. Where can I look for advice about getting after hunting gobblers in the fall?

My suggestion is to Stay out of the Fall Turkey Woods :geek: They DO NOT Gobble! They are Quiet! You will NOT learn New Vocalizations! AND YOU WILL RUIN DEER HUNTING! :slap:

Also, YOU WILL LEAVE MORE FOR ME! :bootyshake:

I'm not an expert but here's what I can tell ya

Get close to the roost an hour before daylight. Flydown will be your best shot. If they move out of range, rush em and bust em and try to call them together. Use assembly yelps and kee kee runs if it's a family group, gobbler yelps and kee kee runs for Jake's, and gobbler yelps and gobbles for the Tom's.

The other option is to get ahead of them or pattern them and wait, more so like a deer hunt.

I find the fall season challenging and enjoyable

Sure they Gobble! Rare for mature Gobblers- but, when, I cut-- the Jakes often open up with those 1/2 gobbles. Then, I can scatter that flock to the 4-winds- have some time to make a quick blind and call them back.

If hunting on public land, where you don't have fields to find turkeys in, how do you initially locate turkeys with little to no gobbling. I'll have little scouting time this year, so it may be rough.

They seem to be pretty habitual until pressured or the food source changes - corn harvested or acorns dropping. Not to sound like a smart aleck, but you'll just have to put boots on the ground, still-hunting with lost yelps and keekees until you find them or identify roost sites
