Quickie after work
Struck out this morning before work, but on my way home I drove through an area I can hunt just to see if they were in the fields. I didn’t have time to hunt. I saw 8 hens in a field alone, but no gobblers in sight. Pulled down a little further to the edge of the gravel to glass the fields for a minute and a turkey gobbled 100 yards at most in the woods to my right. I was between him and the hens. I did the only thing my compulsion will allow. I stripped off my work clothes standing in a gravel road, threw on the first camo things I could find, grabbed my gun, and eased into the woods. Called once, was cut off, readied my gun. Watched two gobblers jump on a log and look, scratched leaves once, and shot the first one that made it to 20 yards. I was 25 yards from my truck and the hunt lasted 8 minutes.
Damn turkey was so big it nearly filled up the whole truck bed.

Congratulations! You can get thrashed and frustrated over and over and suddenly a hunt like that... And it rekindles that passion and fire again. I love the long, chess match type hunts but I LOVE the quickies when they occur! Awesome and congrats again. Love the pic BTW!
