National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Senior Pass

Post by joey46 »

HEADS UP - for those of us 62 and over the cost of this lifetime pass will go from $10 to $80 next month. This pass is a great deal for entry into almost all federal lands that charge a per vehicle fee. All info on line but there is a 3 month backlog. I tried to do the application on line and the site seemed to freeze. Punted and printed out the paper application and will do it by mail. Must be postmarked by 8/27. Good luck. I hope to use it next spring on some hunts out west.

Glad I got mine when I did. For anyone who has the ability to go to any Corp Of Engineers office, they should have to passes and will sell you one on site.

Check the USGS web site. All locations where the passes are available will be listed state by state. Good luck.

Permits picked up in person are $10. You can also order by mail or online for $20. As long as the mail is marked before or on the closing date it will be processed. The new cost is $80 and that is a pretty good deal if you use the parks a lot. But get it now and that's $70 in gas or burger money. LOL

Got mine and the brides yesterday, none of the smaller areas had them in PA..had to make the short trip to Raystown Lake, no line, no wait, done in two minutes and the female rangers were extremely nice to work with...

Can you buy it before you're 62 and then not use it until you're a "senior?"

No clue but betting not. Buddy and his bride took a trip out west this spring and said it saved them a lot. For some reason was not valid at Mt. Rushmore. Oh well. Think the postmark date for mail apps is 8/27. I did the mail route and paid the extra $10 since the only place reasonably close to us was across a toll bridge that cost $6.00. Not worth the gas for $4.

Pretty sure you have to be 62 or older when you buy one.

Had no idea one could hunt in Nation Parks. Also had no idea a person needed a pass of any type to get on federal lands, damn I guess I have led a sheltered life of just never been asked for any permit to be on Federal land !

Gotta get out a little more Grumpy ! Some of the best hunting I've found is on federal lands surrounding big lakes, they are surprisingly under used for the most part, and it's amazing how much the feds control in just about every state.?
