Mule Deer

Post by Shooter »

Stumpy has a Mule Deer trip coming up, so we, and a bunch of others have been texting about it.
We discussed the deer they called "Heart Attack". Then I remembered a pic Rich, the Corvette dude sent me with his daughter.
I'm no Mulie expert, but this thing is huge to me.

I'm headed to Wyoming this fall for my first mule deer hunt too. I can't wait to see what that style hunting is like.

Been 3 times and building points to go again in a couple more years. WY has some great hunting! You get an antelope tag also?

Good luck with the mule deer hunts. Never figured I would ever get to hunt Mule deer but this spring while in Montana the rancher invited me back to hunt mule deer and antelope but I had missed the draws. He had over 6000 acres on his ranch and told me that no one had hunted it in 20 years until he let me hunt turkey there. Gotta figure out the draws for next season !

Timbrhunter,

Which area was the ranch? Most of eastern Montana is huntable with a general tag and I'm sure there are leftover tags available.

In I believe Powder River or Carter counties. I stopped into the area DNR ofice and was told that it was all by draw only for a non-resident ! :dontknow:

Speaking of Mulies, here is a blast from the past. I took this pic in western Wyoming in 2001, while working on a sage grouse project for the University of Wyoming when I was in school. I've got a lot of film of these deer there are 8 bucks in the group, one in the back right is about 30" inside.

No doubt, would've loved to go back there during the season. I talked to so many land owners there, could've hunted private land, if I could've drawn a tag.

Powder River is in Region 7 and it's a General License , but is by draw for NR. However, I'd expect that there are leftover NR General Licenses available. I think that has been the case since the price increase in 2010 or 2011.
