Wish the price of fur would skyrocket.
Re: racoons
High price or not the coons have gotta go! I raised wild turkeys a number of years ago and had so much trouble with the coons getting in the pen, I had to quite. They would find the smallest hole in the wire or make one by chewing through it, digging under it was another way, I even buried the wire down 10" or so. The last summer I had the birds, I killed 22 coons, one a 24# male. You can only imagine what their doing to the turkey population in the wild!!

A few destroyed nests could ruin an area.

Fur was the highest it had been since the 80s just a couple years ago. Don't look for it to go back up for a while. To much going on with china and Russia.Turkinator wrote:Wish the price of fur would skyrocket.

We ALL complain, but MOST of us do
Nothing to get rid of them.
Myself included. But I have decided to
Get traps going this next season.
My pond ducks and resident Canadian
Geese can't raise any young either.

Best thing that could happen to the coon population, is parvo or distemper.
Re: racoons
Get some of those dog prof coon traps, they work great and are easy to set and poke in the ground.

Re: racoons
As a trapper, I feel good by doing what I can to reduce predator populations slightly. More young people need introduced to trapping and hunting fur bearers. They are the ones that will work hard for a 8 dollar fur.

A few years ago southern ohio was full of coon hunters now not so much. What ever happened to those ten thousand dollar walkers? Did they trade them to five dollar cats?

Re: racoons
1 so far, maybe 1 tonight, 13 last year .. live trap em' & smile when I empty the trap!! Possums also .. 1 turkey egg dropped from a crow on my drive, so 7 crows are not in the area anymore this year so far.
Predators about to do damage .. season or not .. fair game
Have 2 hens nesting yet and 1 bearded with @ least 7 chicks!!
Now when I get back from NE, a week from today, the dog trap comes out and animal control will empty it for me

Re: racoons
I hate those little "garbage eating rodents" and kill every one I see year round, we have no season here on predators . even the little baby ones get a .22 hollow point.

Is that dog proof trap the one they reach into and can't pull out?

Re: racoons
Any of you guys tried coon hunting with electronic callers and motion decoys? It looks like it'd be a kick in the butt. I really need to try it, but feel like I should do a bit more research on the subject, first.

Re: racoons
Coons are for sure a problem but skunks are just as bad. It is a shame that fur is no longer the "in thing" to wear.
