And yesterday I got some revenge on this field gobbler that wouldn't play fair on Saturday. He made the mistake of loafing and hanging out in the woods at mid-day....

It sure is a lot different from when I was 17 weighing 165lbs soaken wet and shooting 3.5" loads out of my 835! It kills the birds just as dead, but it's nice not to have a slight concussion after a good morning in the turkey woods!

This thread has given me the fever, I'm setting up a .410 after all this hoopla...y'all are killing me, great job

Wow, those small bores work well on turkeys. Where can I get that TSS 9 shot and reloading data?
I have a couple each 28ga. and .410 bore shotguns and turkey season is open here in New Mexico until May 10.
What factory load of standard lead shot would you use if you couldn't get the tss stuff? I may take the .410 tomorrow with 3" #6 factory lead shells. Your advice?

pm hawglips about tss. In the meantime, use #7.5 shot rather than #6. With #6, you will run out of pattern density before penetration and #7.5 is deadly for head/neck regions inside 30 yards. Pattern the gun at 30 yards with the shot. If you don't have about 100 inside the 10" ring, you'll need to restrain yourself from shooting at that distance. Find the distance where you can put about 100 shot in the 10 ring and govern yourself accordingly. Check your state regs for the minimum size shot you can use on turkeys. Some states won't allow small shot. Gil

Thanks Gil, for the fast reply. I'll see if I can find some #7.5 in 3" shells. New Mexico allows any shotgun using shot only. They don't mention shot size.
I'll pattern it this afternoon.

Gil you were right.
I found some Winchester .410 bore 3 inch #7.5 yesterday evening, but I didn't have time to pattern my Mossberg 500 .410. My hunting buddy called last night and wanted to go this morning. So, we went hunting this morning and I killed my first turkey using a .410 at about 15 yards.

Thanks man! The gun is a Franchi 48AL in 28, and I love it! It was the NWTF gun of the year this year, and I happened to win it. I just wrapped it in the Mossy Oak Graphics stuff, it was too pretty for a permanent dip. It averages around 240 with 9.5's out of the flush full.
About two months before I won the gun I had purchased a CZ Woodcock to hunt with. The Franchi performed better and was dead on with the bead, but Hal's pics are just so darn pretty with that little CZ.....makes me wanna tote it. I added a set of fire sights, but didn't have time to get it straight this year, and really had no need to.
That bird was shot at about 40 yards and didn't flop a time. He did a few leg kicks, but that was it.

I made it into the club! Shot this guy this morning at 25yards. 500 youth fixed full choke bead sight.
