Remington 870 wingmaster 28 gauge

Post by John Saunders »

I have shot several turkeys with a 20 gauge shooting Tss and love the patterning and performance, but was considering trying a 28 this year. Has anyone had any experience with the Remington 870 28 gauge with TSS. Just wondering about chokes selection and patterns. So far Briley has the only Extra Full choke that I have found.
Thanks for any suggestions

I’m looking to add an 870 28ga to my collection for turkey hunting. I am sure they are shooters.

Does that have a Remington “mobil” choke?
Don't start none, won't be none!

Back in 2016 I did a Grand Slam with TSS handloads using a 28ga 870 Express with a fixed modified choke. I ended up killing 6 birds with that gun that year (4 of them between 40 and 50 yards).

Here was my pattern with the modified choke using TSS #9 with Hal’s 1 1/2 oz recipe:

Imagine how well it would shoot with an aftermarket choke!

I have an older WM with a fixed Mod - VR. Think I paid too much for it... got caught up in an auction. Sure looks nice sitting in the safe.

A few years back, I bought the youth model Savage 555 and added a Trulock choke, with 9.5 TSS. Shoots really well and a dream to carry.

Hart, that's a perfect hunting load. I recall you McGyvered one in FL when you forgot your roll crimper. Gil
