Your instincts about asking are correct. LOL

Here's the deal with the gun.....yep...very expensive. $3k+ worth but before anyone has a stroke here is the way that I look at it.
This is a custom made gun.....built from a plank of maple by a very skilled Craftsman who in the end probably made about $20 per hour after the price of the components up front which are about $1k. Those components (lock, barrel, brass castings etc) are top end and low volume so they are expensive

I obviously love 18th century Flint guns and wanted to do it right ONE TIME with a gun that I will cherish and look forward to carrying for the rest of my life.....this is the sport I enjoy and the style of gun that I wanted for the rest of my turkey hunting, So really what is that extra joy worth?

In the end I turned a handful of soul-less plastic and blued over the counter guns that I wasn't using into the cash I needed for a family heirloom and I couldn't be happier.
And yeah it really is as fun as you might imagine....and I'm not giving up much of anything performance wise so it's a win, win, win!

....And one more for good measure!
NY bird from Saturday makes 3 for the season with the flintlock between PA and NY.
3 moves over 2hrs, pinned down at 70yds for 45 min while he gobbled in my face, strutted, and bred a hen....I was finally able to make a final move after his hen walked away at 8am. Got an angle on him from the direction the hen left, and just like that called him to about 10 big steps! Any closer and he would have almost literally been smoked turkey.
Had to change the load back to nickle plated lead #5.5s because of the regs, but I probably could have killed this one with a handful of M&Ms poured down the barrel

Dangit that gun is a beauty. I've got to do that some day. I may go with a cap instead of flintlock.

It's been years but I've killed a few squirrels with a double barrel fowler that my dad owned. One or two shots and the whole woods was full of fog and smelled like powder.

Thanks everyone....appreciate the comments.
I've been doing the flintlock thing for a while and have learned some things about what works and doesn't work. So if anyone is considering trying a flintlock and real black for spring turkeys please feel free to give me a shout. I should be able to speed the learning curve for you. (Or at least help you spend your money!)
