I’m new to the 410 but the ballistics are unreal for a sub gauge lookin at shooting browning BPS 26in barrel w/ Fed TSS or APEX through JEBS X FULL TURKEY CHOKE. Is 50 possible or is that pushing it

If it’s 9’s or 9.5’s I don’t think it’s unrealistic

It’s certainly possible but probably stretching it with most guns. 130 pellets in a 10” circle at 40 yards is not uncommon. As a rule of thumb figure 70% pattern retention from 40-50 yards. That would give you roughly 90 pellets in the 10” at 50 yards. I think most people shoot for 100 minimum.

and no.. I was elated years ago with a 75 pellet count in the turkey target at 50 yards with lead back in the day.
with TSS I would say 75 is the least i would want for max range

Trajectory is your enemy

I haven't tested my loads or gun at 50. Steve Roberts has and his observation out of his gun is that the 70% rule didn't hold true for the 13/16 oz. load most likely because of velocity which some have reported as low as 900 fps. The updated loads however have faster velocity and the rule may apply. The updated loads by Hal also have lower pressures. With the .410 ( and other gauges) probably the best rule is not to shoot a bird until you can clearly make out his eyeball. Then you don't have to worry about distance. Gil

A federal rep. Told a store owner where i buy lots of hunting stuff that they were killing birds at 60 yards with the .410. I heard it right from the owner and he wasn't trying to sell me. He is not for shooting them past 40 with anything.

A Federal rep said......... probably delete or strongly discount any and all words that follow.

It is a small pattern and lots of ways to miss with it or not get it perfectly centered on the neck. Mine is deadly on paper targets with good rest. A lot more challenging with body twisted , adrenaline and moving turkey.
