Shot my son’s little gun today, not the little one in the picture as he has a couple years yet. It is the Stevens 301 compact, 22" barrel, with a SumToy .388 shooting Browning TSS 9s at a ranged 40 yards. Shot a little low but nothing aiming at head will not fix! Very happy! Not sure he is quite ready to hunt with it yet, but we will be shooting some field loads here soon to let him practice. If he is comfortable with it then I may just let him use the modified and keep shots under 30. Plan to shoot a bit more with it to get a good feel for it.

Re: Stevens 301 Compact
That's a good way to start a young hunter out. Nice pattern too.
Re: Stevens 301 Compact
A 22lr adapter makes for no-recoil practice. The one I have from Short Lane is accurate enough to maybe ten yards.

Re: Stevens 301 Compact
How’s the recoil on the Browning’s?
Have you had a chance to shoot the federals to compare?
Once your young man smashes a snood he’s gonna be hooked!

Not bad for me, I imagine a kid they would hit pretty decent. Decided against Federals as I have heard the pellets would be stuck into the wad and most did not get great patterns from them. Thought hard about Apex but got some loads from Hal and will load some 9.5s next season in it. Already ordered another box of the Browning so I can do some more testing with them.
