Who Shoots TSS in a BPS 20 Gauge

Post by Jstocks »

Just got my hands on a nice youth model. I'll likely shoot the MOA load. Wondering who has some choke advice and patterns to show.

We run 562 in them. I see some with the IC 555 also. I think the 562 is the best :toothy7: good luck

I concur on the 555-562

Depends on size shot
555 tighter pattern and the 562 hair more open
Don't start none, won't be none!

Thanks guys. I shot a .555 in my Franchi for a year. I did not like it.

I may go to a .562 but probably start at .575 to see and go from there.

Anyone out there got a pattern or 2 to share?

I have Sumtoy on my 12 ga and IC on my 20. Both are absolute top shelf. I like Sumtoy Bc William is on this forum and I can get info and feedback quickly!!! And it’s a head busting choke at all yardages. [emoji106][emoji2533]

I shot a .585 Carlson's out of my SX3 with Hal's 1 5/8oz load and it was lights out. I could dig up a pic if ya want, it was a 310/220 average. I would think with the MOA a more open choke would be beneficial. It's an Invector plus gun so the bore diameter is .630, a .555 would be tiiiight!

I actually shot the MOA out of my Affinity with a Carlson's Cremator that I believe was .585 and it had one of the best hunting patterns I've ever seen. Those autos have feed issues with the longer shells and my Affinity loves the 90/93 load.
Since I was given the bps I figured I'd buy a youth stock for the Affinity and set it up for my daughter and I'll use the bps.

Sounds like .585 might be where I need to start with experimenting.

This is the way to think! Choke exit diameters are just numbers representing size. To fully understand impact on patterns, one needs to consider the actual bore internal diameter (any gunsmith can gauge a barrel; most do it for free).

End game? How much "choke" your choke tube places on a shot payload is the ratio of the bore internal diameter to the exit diameter of the parallel section in a turkey choke.

This is key.

How much , if any , does shot size play into this?

I bought a Carlson's extended .585
We'll see how that goes, but if I could get a 300/300 ish pattern at 40 yards that will be great.

Bet you will get a heck of a thump too!!! But the good thing is the bps is a heavy gun to absorb some of the recoil!!! Good luck!

I personally wouldn't go any tighter than a .575 with the MOA load, I know a feller that shot 5 of the MOA's out of his gun with a IC .555 and had to heat the barrel with a torch in order to get the choke tube out. 2 1/8 oz. is a bunch out of a 20 gauge.
