20 gauge SxS

I’ve been really wanting to set up a side by side 20 gauge for turkeys but have no clue where to start. I currently shoot an 870 youth 20 and love how small it is but I really like the style of a side by side. What are y’alls suggestions? And are there any problems with the poa on the side by sides? Thanks a lot!

I have yildiz 410 that shoots one barrel dead on and the other about 4 inches low. Have had several others that were bad off even with lead. If you do a search there is a way to file the chokes and improve them. You may get lucky and get one that shoots were you aim but I wouldn’t expect it.

Unfortunately, I don't know of anyone that imports a reasonably priced DT sxs anymore. CZ did for a long time, but I think they only have ST guns that are higher priced now. There are several Turkish firms that make decent guns that would be suitable for turkey hunting, but I don't know of any that you can buy here. You can get a Dickinson for about $1600, but thats a nicer gun and more money than I'd wanna spend on a turkey gun. If you are willing to spend that much, they will make you one with DT and 24" barrels.

If you aren't willing to spend that much, then the used market has guns available that would work. I'd look for a CZ Uplander or a Bobwhite if you can live with the straight stock. I use a Yildiz, but it's a ST model. Academy doesn't sell them anymore and they rarely are for sale used.

You are almost certain to have POI issues shooting TSS loads in a sxs. They can be solved, but I would expect to have to deal with them if you wanna shoot tss in both barrels. Doc has dealt with it by using lead in the open barrel, but I think he only used CZ guns to do that. A CZ was the only gun I ever tested that shot both barrels close enough to get by without filing. Good luck

Preach, we actually shoot Hevi handloads (#9)in the right (open) barrel. I set these guns to shoot left barrel “on” at 40 yds. The right barrel shoots “on” at 20 yds. I didn’t try to get them to shoot to same POA/POI. Maybe I was lucky and it just worked for me, maybe not. I did right about 15 double guns for turkeys. I know of one other guy who duplicated my work on his own. Too bad they quit making those guns. They really were the ideal platform for this application. GunBroker usually has a couple if you are patient

Doc, if I had set up my CZ that way I would not have had a problem with the POI. Both barrels shot within 2" of the same spot at 40 with the same TSS load. Mine is actually a Jon's Special that says Uplander and also model 202 on it. It is the same gun as the Bobwhite, but it has a pistol grip and chrome receiver. If any of you guys looking for a sxs can find either model they make great turkey guns.

Those Jon’s Specials were a great deal! I have the 28 and a couple.410’s from them. I wish the pistol grip stock had been available-but you get used to the straight ones too. I like my CZ .410 w/the pistol grip.

Thanks for the replies. I really like the bob whites it’s just hard to find one but I’ll keep looking.

I have a friend with one. He seems to like it. I know he has each barrel choke differently and I have not been with him to pattern it, however I did watch him shoot several turkeys with it.
