Which 28?
I’ve toted a 12 for 26 years killing turkeys. Ive got a few pounds of# 9 TSS and it seems kinda crazy to continue to carry almost 8 pounds of shotgun and shoot 2oz of gold when y’all are getting awesome patterns with a fraction of the shot and in a compact lightweight gun to boot.
Any recommendations for a good side by side or O/U that won’t break the bank?

Re: Which 28?
I am shooting a sumtoy choke, haven’t shot tss yet. I will be shooting one of Hal’s loads, waiting on rest of my components to come in. I shot a few skeet and liked the way it handled. Will post up in a week or so with tss patterns

Benelli Ultralight 28. Amazing patterns with Hal’s loads!

X2 on the Stevens 555. I'm shooting Hal's load of 9.5's with the Trulock choke. Killed a bird at 40+, this year. DRT

CZ Bobwhite is the way to go, in my opinion...if you can find one.

Stevens 555 is Mobil choke. I’m shooting sumtoy choke. With Hal’s 1-1/2 oz load of 9.5s. At 40 getting 277 in the 10 and 255 in the 10-20

Re: Which 28?
I have no dog in this fight, but in reading this thread I thought of a review I read a couple of weeks ago by Dave in AZ. Here it is:
https://pipesf16.wordpress.com/stevens- ... 20ga-28ga/
To summarize, he really liked the 555, but had trouble with it doubling on him. Dave is a really sharp reloader with lots of good gun info on his site, so I would consider his opinion to be worthwhile. I don't understand why the rest of the world doesn't agree with my opinion that a gun with 2 barrels should have 2 triggers. Not only is it a much better setup for hunting, but it's far less likely to ever double. I think the CZ o/u gun they used to sell is about the only gun you might find set up with DT at a price appropriate for a turkey gun.
I bought a single trigger Fausti gun a couple of weeks back and it would fire when you closed it. That got my attention in a hurry. Fortunately, I was at my little homemade range and all alone, so no harm done. I took it apart and found that someone must have done an amateur trigger job on it and ruined it. The gun shop I bought it from didn't know about the issue and they took it back. I didn't want a ST gun; I had bought it with the intent to swap the wood with a DT Fausti that I have and then resell it. That idea didn't work out.
If I were starting out fresh looking for a TSS turkey gun, I think I would go with a 28 gauge gun instead of the 20s that I have. I have never shot a 28 turkey load, but it's obvious from looking at the numbers and all the patterns you guys have posted that the 28 gauge 1.5 oz load is more than adequate. Of course, I'd have to find some sort of sxs gun, and that can be difficult. Good luck finding what you want.

Re: Which 28?
As has been stated, it would be hard to top a CZ Bobwhite 28 ga. At 5 lbs., 3 oz. and with double triggers and well regulated barrels according to those that shoot one. I am a big fan of doubles for bird hunting and won't buy one with a single trigger. The exception is a Remington 3200 o/u with a single trigger that I've had for 40 years. I have more than a handful of SxS's and all have double triggers. For bird hunting, big and small, a double trigger is hard to beat for split second barrel selection. Choosing a barrel rapidly under pressure with a single select trigger is like rubbing your head and patting your stomach simultaneously. An old gun writer, Col. Askins, observed that had the single selective trigger been invented first, the introduction of the double trigger would have been hailed as an improvement. The old Anson & Deeley boxlock design was patented in 1875 and the simple 2 trigger design is still copied in modern boxlock shotguns such as the CZ Bobwhite. Gil
Re: Which 28?
I have one Double barrel and it has two triggers. It’s ancient but it can shoot! And I know EXACTLY which barrel I’m shooting. And you are spot on my friend!!
