ATI Cavalry O/U .410 and TSS 9.5 shot
ATI Cavalry O/U .410 and TSS 9.5 shot
Shot this at 50 yards with Hal’s 370NM load with 9.5 shot through a Briley Improve Modified choke that sticks out of the barrel 2”. I’ve bumped the powder charge up a little, and plan to sending it off to make sure I’m not over SAAMI psi.Hal’s load runs roughly 2650 psi under SAAMI psi for a .410. I don’t like shooting over 40 yards, but want to know if I misjudge the yardage that Im good. What I have found out with the .410 speed is crucial past 40 yards for the pattern to stay together!!!
Re: ATI Cavalry O/U .410 and TSS 9.5 shot
Awesome pattern for that distance with a 410!
Re: ATI Cavalry O/U .410 and TSS 9.5 shot
Can you elaborate some on what all you tried/learned to get that pattern?
Re: ATI Cavalry O/U .410 and TSS 9.5 shot
Not to be short, but burning alot of powder, and trying different chokes! All different size, and length chokes. The ATI .410 o/u has chokes that only goes one inch down into the barrel, so it needs more on the outside of the barrel. A .410 is more finicky than most women!!! Go with a 28ga if you don’t like spending money, or chasing your tail, or have a understanding wife!!! lol

Did you shoot it with a choke tighter than imp mod For comparison? Not that you'd need to from the looks of that pattern.
Re: ATI Cavalry O/U .410 and TSS 9.5 shot
Yeah, I have the same choke in .375, and it likes T-10’s a lot better!Turkinator wrote: ↑June 4th, 2018, 4:29 pm Did you shoot it with a choke tighter than imp mod For comparison? Not that you'd need to from the looks of that pattern.

Yours sure shoots a lot better than my Cavalry did. Mine was so poor with the factory chokes I decided not to even test any further. Congrats!

Did you shoot 9.5s through a tighter choke or for your gun does it perform the best with the Briley IM?
Re: ATI Cavalry O/U .410 and TSS 9.5 shot
No, that’s the next test session when I have time. I will post the results.

Absolutely amazing for a .410 at 50 yds. It wasn't that long ago that a 3.5" 12 ga would have a hard time hanging with that pattern.

Threw his sucker in the dirt and left. Just how bad was it?crenshawco wrote: ↑June 5th, 2018, 8:00 am Yours sure shoots a lot better than my Cavalry did. Mine was so poor with the factory chokes I decided not to even test any further. Congrats!
Re: ATI Cavalry O/U .410 and TSS 9.5 shot
Yeah, mine was the same way even with some after market chokes. But it came alive with the Briley chokes that stick out of the barrel 2”. With the factory full it only shot 67 in the 10” at 40 yards. I was sick about it then, because the gun is light weight 4.25 lbs, but better balanced than the Yildiz single shot. Several $$$ later I’m good with it, but always tinkering to make it better! I see in a few years it will be my go to turkey gun because it doesn’t kick the crap out of you!!!crenshawco wrote: ↑June 5th, 2018, 8:00 am Yours sure shoots a lot better than my Cavalry did. Thanks buddy! Hal sure opened my eyes to what a .410 will do!!! I know you help him a lot, so my hat is off to both of you!!! Thanks!! Wished I would have had a 3” 12ga 40 years ago when I started turkey hunting that shot that good!!!Spuriosity wrote: ↑June 5th, 2018, 8:30 am Absolutely amazing for a .410 at 50 yds. This was the .375 at 50 with 9.5 shot. I think William at SumToy is right.385 is the sweet spot for a .410 with 9-9.5 tss shot. The l M choke was supposed to go in the bottom barrel for close shots. The I M measures.390 on the inside exit diameter.

I don't remember exactly, but it was about 50 pellets in the 10" at 40 yards. It was patheticcoconut wrote: ↑June 5th, 2018, 8:32 amThrew his sucker in the dirt and left. Re: ATI Cavalry O/U .410 and TSS 9.5 shot
So the .390 shot the 9.5s better at 50yrds than the .375 in your particular gun?
It shot the .375 with 10s at 50 yards better if I follow you correctly..?
Thank you

I can’t figure out what my 410 likes. Tried the .381 .385 and factory. William is helping me out now thankfully. I’m confident I will get some better results now. I’m also trying Hal’s 370 nm
Re: ATI Cavalry O/U .410 and TSS 9.5 shot
Have you tried 9.5 or 10’s in the .381 choke?
