Them short 1300s or even the ones with 22" barrels thump with a 2oz load.

My 12 ga Beretta 686 UL O/U with 28" barrels is listed at 5 lb, 14 oz, but mine weighs 6 lbs - really light for a 12 ga.

Yildiz single-shot .410 with Burris FFIII: 3 lbs, 4.5 oz.
Baikal MP18 single-shot 20 ga. with FFIII: 5 lbs., 6.7 oz. (Styrene stock and forend)
Baikal MP18 single-shot .410 with Docter 5 lbs, 11.9 oz.(wood stock and forend)
Mossberg Super Bantam 20 ga. with Trijicon Reflex 6 lbs., 8.6 oz.
Potentials:
Beretta 412 single-shot 20 ga. 4 lbs., 13 oz.
CZ Bobwhite SXS 28 ga. 5lbs., 3 oz.
Savage 220A 20 ga. single-shot 5 lbs., 0.5 oz.
Savage 220D 16 ga. single-shot 5 lbs., 9.9 oz.
Savage 220B .410 single-shot 5 lbs., 13 oz.
Baikal MP18 20 ga. 5 lbs., 10.8 oz. (wood stock and forend)
The Savages are the earlier made break-open actions and not the current bolt actions. How is that the smallest bore .410 weighs more than the 16 and 20 gauges? The actions aren't scaled. To keep the .410 chamber centered on the firing pin, the walls of the chamber are .3" thick and the chamber tapers quickly downward to the barrel. There is more steel in the .410 barrel than the 20 and 16 gauges. On my potentials, the Bobwhite is a possible for drilling and tapping. I have the Skinner sight and post in hand. Just undecided on the need to do it. The Beretta may able to shoot without modifying for a red dot. I have an idea for coinciding POA/POI without additional sights. If it works, I'll post results. Franklin's in Athens had a .410 Bobwhite as of last week, btw.

Sounds like that CZ Bobwhite SXS 28ga would be to much trouble for you, so I will take it off your hands!!!

Steve, I appreciate the generous offer, but I enjoy it on dove early season and occasionally use it over my dogs for woodcock and quail. But thanks anyway.

GLS, does the 220 Stevens have enough barrel thickness to do choke tubes?

These are Savage 220s as they are marked. While Stevens and Savage merged in 1920, the Savage name was used until much later after these guns were made. As for muzzle thickness, in 20 gauge full, the muzzle thickness is .078" or very thin and remember, this is with constriction over the bore diameter. I think those that do thread it, reduce barrel length which should increase wall thickness as one moves closer to the chamber. For comparison, the Baikal MP18's muzzle is .011" wall thickness with a full choke. Here's a comparison photo below. My 16 gauge 220D has a wall thickness at muzzle of .100" . It is full, but I don't know the bore OD. I don't have a bore gauge or barrel thickness measuring device. I would be careful choking thin walled guns. I have seen 220 in 12, 20 and 16 successfully choke tubed. I haven't seen 28 or .410 but know of no reason that they couldn't be choke tubed.

I think the wood density plays the biggest roll in weight differences of guns of the same make and model.

That and recoil pads. If earlier version had a thin butt pad, then that big hunk of rubber on the one I weighed would account for a difference.

Ben UL28ga 26" - 5lbs 3oz
Weatherby SA08 28ga 28"- 5lbs 15oz
ATI Cavalry 28ga 26" (same as 555) - 5lbs Even
Benelli Montefeltro 20ga 26" - 5lbs 13oz
Yilidiz 410 single - 3lbs 4oz
Everything over 6lbs is considered heavy in my book and has been sold or doesn't ever get used.

My Yildiz 20 gauge sxs weighs 5 lb 6 oz. The Ugartechea sxs weighs 6 lbs 1 oz. All my 12 gauge guns are in retirement as far as turkey hunting.

In response to choke tubing a gun, the first thing to do is reload a couple TSS shells and run them through the original choke. My old single shot Savage 220 runs 230 at 4o yards. That’s going to make them dead enough for me.

weighted a few of my turkey hunting shotguns tonight..
Tristar Viper 28ga is 5lbs 13oz
Encore 20ga is 6lbs 6oz with sling 6.10 (has Burris FF3)
Tominator is 6lbs 7oz (shotgun muzzleloader)
M2 20ga is 6lbs 2oz with sling 6.7
SPST 20ga is 6lbs 12oz and with sling 7.1 (has Vortex Venom)
Ithaca 37 12ga is 6lbs 12oz with sling 7.1 (has Vortex Viper)
I thought the Ithaca 12ga was lite.. but shocked to see it weights the same as the 870 20ga
