Rem 870 JR

Post by MKW »

Do any of yall have the 870 JR 20ga with the 18" barrel?? If so, tell me about it, please.
Thinking about getting one to play with. If I can't get it to pattern wortha darn, I figure I could build it for a home defense gun. I have no plans to shoot TSS, so I'm really wondering about the pattern with Fed HW 7s.

Thanks, William. I think I may get one. By the way, that FF mount is very nice. Worked out great on my M1 20ga. Thanks.

I purchased an 870 Compact JR 20ga 18" barrel this fall and set it up for chasing turkeys. I put in an Indian Creek .555 and average 280 in 10" and 230 in 20" shooting the Big 20XL 1 5/8, 9 TSS. I also went ahead an bought the Timney trigger fix and added a Nikon ProDiamond scope.

I bought one back in February with the same thought as you. Got William to send me a choke, 562-5, and bought a few boxes of Heavyweight thinking I'd get 150’s in the 10 ring at 40 yards and would be satisfied. Well I was wrong. I've tried two different lot number of shells and cannot get more than 120 and it is a very inconsistent pattern at that, might as well be a Sunday pattern cause it's holy.
I spoke with William about two weeks ago and he was going to send me a couple different chokes to try. I got impatient and ordered a Truglo SSX and if I can break away from work early enough I will be testing the SSX out today.

Mike the last 870 I owned was a youth 20ga and it was not well built. It was like they forgot to polish the internal parts. Maybe it was just that gun. Good luck.

I put the 18 " barrel on my 870, I'm averaging 320 with 1.625 #9 shot with a .555 I.C.
