What choke for tss in benelli sbe

Post by ehgbyf »

I have an older sbe that I never really turkey hunted with because I could not ever get it to pattern well. I found a mec loader in my dads attic last weekend so I loaded some 12 gauge tss for it. 2 oz's of 8 or 9 shot.

What choke do you reccomend? I have a ported rhino 665 in it now but based on experiences with my other guns this is too tight for the tss.

Thanks for your help.

May want to give that .665 a try. It will be tight, but you may like it.

I'm using a PG 670. But I would buy a xtra full trulock or carlsons. They are alot cheaper. You don't need expensive chokes for TSS from what I have read on here.

The rhino 665 will be good. I have I rhino 670 and it throws good tight patterns. Also can shoot hevi shot/nitros and never have to Change chokes.

What kind of patterns are you getting with your .670 with the 2 oz. TSS load?

I am wanting a more even pattern. I am worried the 665 will be too tight based on my work with my 20 gauge guns. My 20 gauge setup for hevi/nitros is was too tight for the tss.

I've used a PG .670 for the last 6 years. It usually puts about 240 into the 10" ring at 40 using #8 tss. I wouldn't want it any tighter.

My Buddy has one of the older SBEs, and his shoots TSS 2oz or 2 1/2oz best with the factory full, which is .685 or .690

I haven't shot it with the 2 oz load but have shot it with 2 1/4 oz 9s. I will have to go back and find my pattern board in my reloading room but I'm pretty sure i hit 400+ in a 10" circle.

So I tried out my IC .665 in my SBE2
70*. Slight breeze 10mph. Humidity 100%
Hals Federal 3" 2oz #9's
10"---395!!!
20"---220!!!
Hals Fiocchi 3" 2oz 9's
10"---295
20"---300
So why such a big difference?
Needless to say I like the IC .665 Ported
With the TSS!!!!

The difference between hulls is interesting. I ordered a Carlson Extended Turkey Choke in 675 to try in my SBE 1. I'll post up the results.

How many shots each. You will get swings some times. Both are damn good.

There are no numbers on any of my clocks below 8. Then all of a sudden, 2 days before turkey season they appear. Then right after the season they disappear.
What's up with that

I'm more of a 20" guy than a 10" guy. When we are shooting cores that are so dense, it doesn't take much to swing right many pellets to one side of the 10" line or the other. 595 vs 615 isn't a very big difference in the 20".
