Mossberg 835 with Pure Gold 670
I picked up a pretty much brand new Mossberg Turkey edition yesterday on a deal i couldn't pass on... Has the ported barell, overbored, drill and tapped, etc. It also came with a Pure Gold 670 choke and with this barrel being like a 10 Gauge with the overbored barrel has me thinking.. is 670 gonna be too tight for TSS? any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

I have a 935 with a .670 pure gold and it shoots tss very nicely. Not over choked in my opinion.
Re: Mossberg 835 with Pure Gold 670
I have shot lots of TSS( 2oz of 9's, 2oz of 8x9's, 2.25oz of 9's, and 1oz HWTx7/8oz of 9's)through a 20" barrel 835, and the patterns were blown until I got up to a .710 choke. The .720 Indian Creek waterfowl choke throws the best pattern out of it. Depending on recipe you're using or maybe the longer barrel the .670 may work for you. I would definitely try it, if pattern is blown I would be searching for a .710-.720 choke.

This is a 24" barrel and was going to run 2 1/4 TSS in it.. and that's what I was afraid of... I'm going to try it first but if its blown out with the 24" barrel would you only go Indian Creek route or is there another option that you would recommend? Trying to keep the cost down since I paid $250 for the whole setup choke and all.el diablo wrote:I have shot lots of TSS( 2oz of 9's, 2oz of 8x9's, 2.25oz of 9's, and 1oz HWTx7/8oz of 9's)through a 20" barrel 835, and the patterns were blown until I got up to a .710 choke. I didn't mention it but all my 935's have 28" barrel. You may see a difference with the shorter barrels.

Doesn't have to be an indian creek at all. Check out floppintom's pattern: http://oldgobbler.com/Forum/index.php?topic=34422.0 its with a Hasting's .717.
I have a .705 carlson's you can have laying around here somewhere that may work. You can have it if ya want. I also have tried a .727 carlson's and it worked, but pattern was huge and even, can't recall numbers. I am thinking like 280 10" 300 20" with 2 oz of 9's.

I have found my 835 is not very finicky with most chokes and loads. I do not shoot TSS but I do shoot Magblends and lead loads and all have done well for me. I have patterned with a Carlson .690 with good results and believe it or not the factory chokes that came with my 835 pattern well. I only went to the Carlson choke as I wanted the ability to unscrew it without tools in the field. That being said I did not buy any more chokes so I would still need a choke tool to put one of the factory chokes in properly! Good luck and have fun with your new shotgun!

Caleb. Try the one you have. If it's not good get a plain Carlson or Trulock in the 680-710 range.
