Re: tss 10 shot effective range?
Depends on velocity honestly, but if I recall, 50 yards is a safe bet at 1100 fps.
Re: tss 10 shot effective range?
curious what is 9's then

Re: tss 10 shot effective range?
I have never used nines very far. but have talked to may who have shot turkeys at70-80 yards with 9's and they die
Re: tss 10 shot effective range?
At 1100 FPS for 1.5” penetration I think this is what Hal said.
9’s - 72 yards
9.5’s - 62 yards
10’ - 52 yards
9’s - 72 yards
9.5’s - 62 yards
10’ - 52 yards

Wonder why they did a 8 10 blend

Re: tss 10 shot effective range?
In a 20 gauge, I would take straight 9s any day over a 8x10 blend. It will kill further than we should be shooting. The 72 yard max above is correct for 9s. I dont think anyone needs more than that. The only gauge I see 10s being really effective for is the 410 bore honestly.

Straight 9s are as effective as it gets. I've loaded up some 2oz loads of 8s for my 12 but haven't packed it in 3 years now.

Agreed - 10s for the .410 bore only. Nines for all other turkey hunting applications where legal.

Re: tss 10 shot effective range?
I went from 9's to 8's because I don't like picking shot out of it before cooking. I cant imagine using 10's
Re: tss 10 shot effective range?
federal has a new 3 1/2" duplex load in 7/9 but only did a 1000fps velocity also puzzling?
Re: tss 10 shot effective range?
I don't shoot TSS... but I thought penetration was the #1 selling point why are you having to pick so much of the shot from the meat?Gar Commander wrote: ↑January 13th, 2019, 9:59 am I went from 9's to 8's because I don't like picking shot out of it before cooking. I cant imagine using 10's
Another question 1100fps is the standard for making the penetration claims that's at the impact not the muzzle, so if you start off at 1150fps at the muzzle wouldn't that put you less than 1100 at impact of the bird is at 50 yards?

If 1100 fps is tha standard for penetration calculations that's at the impact of the shot right? So if the load starts at 1150 at 50 yards your going to be less than 1100fps has anyone done the math on that? It's been said here and I've seen it elsewhere about pellets in the meat I thought penetration was the #1 selling point of TSS so why so much pellets in the meat? I've not had that problem with HTL.

Re: tss 10 shot effective range?
Most handloaders load to around 1100 fps at the muzzle. Launched at that speed, a TSS 9 is moving at 615 fps at 50 yds and will still penetrate 1.82" which is way more than sufficient penetration to kill a turkey. TSS patterns tightly enough that most of the load will hit the head and neck if you do your part. I normally find 0-4 pellets in the turkeys I kill, and I have killed a truckload with TSS 9s. Don't body shoot them, and you won't find many pellets in the meat.

Hard not to body shoot them at 72 yards. 🤨Spuriosity wrote: ↑January 14th, 2019, 8:24 am Don't body shoot them, and you won't find many pellets in the meat.
