2 oz. 8X9-1/2 TSS Choke HELP

Post by Spurred »

Really need some advice from the experts.

I'm running a .665 Rhino out of a 26" barrel 870, shooting a 2 ounce 8x9-1/2 load. I believe I'm over choked for this load, with a 3 shot pattern that's abysmal. I didn't count them, but I'd estimate I'm pushing less than 250 pellets in a 10" at 40. Please let me know if you all have recommendations on what choke is optimal for this gun/load.

Huge thanks to anyone able to contribute.

Probably too tight a choke for any brand except for Indian Creek. I would go to 675 somewhere in there in other choke Brands.

There are no numbers on any of my clocks below 8. Then all of a sudden, 2 days before turkey season they appear. Then right after the season they disappear.
What's up with that

I run a Rem HS SF .675 choke in my 26" barreled 1187. It does 306/248 with a 2 oz T98 stacked load. Betting you'll do better if you open it up a bit.

I have a 870 26" with an Indian Creek 665 that shoots well over 300 near 400 with straight 9s but would not hesitate to use
the Remington super full tube .

I added a new sight to my 870 so had to take it to the range yesterday. I previously was shooting the factory Rem-Choke that came with the gun (.665). My buddy had an Indian Creek (.665) he let me borrow so I could compare. Well, I shot each load at both 40 and 50 yards (twice each at both yardages) and the factory choke outperformed the IC each time (ended up averaging ~25 hits better). I've also tried a Wingmaster HD choke (.675) and my factory .665 did slightly better. I'm shooting 2.5oz of #8.5s. Not getting amazing patterns (avg 330 in the 10" or 44%), but it is sufficient for me. Haven't gotten around to counting the 20" yet. Given my history on shooting at turkey, I need all the help in the 20" I can get.
