TSS for Deer?

Post by hookinembig »

Just wondering if anyone has made up a deer load for the 12 gauge using TSS? Based on the damage it will produce on a turkey and the penetration at further distances I was wondering if you could use a smaller diameter shot or a larger shot with more penetration to be more effective for deer?

Hog--- has loads for the 12 ga, just go by weight and you are good. I shoot 1 1/4 oz 4mm in 20 ga. works for me. Some people use 4.5mm, some 5mm. I like to keep the count up. but in a 12 ga you could use 5mm and still get a good count. You may not find any of them under the skin on the far side, like I do with 4 mm.

4mm is B size, 4.5mm is .17 caliber, and 5mm is .20 caliber.

Yes, from what I'm hearing, they do very well on Deer.

I run 2 3/4" 1oz 4mm at close to 1400 fps. Works great on deer. I would shoot a 20ga if I didn't have a dedicated 12ga for deer.

There are no numbers on any of my clocks below 8. Then all of a sudden, 2 days before turkey season they appear. Then right after the season they disappear.

Search function will find you some info. Also, first animal we shot here was a 125# hog at 80yds. 9 pellets were pass thru both shields. I shot some at street signs here. OOB about 20% go thru at 50yds. 4mm at 1400fps gives 100% pass thru and 42+- pellets in the load.

I shot a doe with a 5mm load several years ago. I was just testing it for Hal to see how it would perform on a deer. Shot her at 30 yards and she dropped right there. Complete penetration on every pellet.

If I had a good reason to hunt with buckshot I'd use a tss load for sure.

My buddy works in traffic for the city. Some old signs find their way here.

The 4mm are about #1 size, the 4.5mm are the size of Daisy BBs, or #B in typical hunting shot, and the 5mm are about #T.

The first deer shot with the #1s I have was a small buck at 67 lasered yards several years ago. The shooter counted 16 pellets that hit the deer, and 13 of them passed completely through with 3 stuck under the skin on the off side.

The 1s run about 48/oz the Ts about 24/oz. The Bs about 35/oz.

Sounds like you could work up an awesome predator load with some of those options

I miss stated before. 4mm is 47-48 per oz. Much better than any factory offered round. For yotes and such I would shoot #4s. Should kill to 100+yds
