New "backup" gun
So, I'm considering a few new 12 gauge autoloaders for back-up wing shooting, loaning to friends, and maybe for some time on the sporting clays course. This is certainly not a need, I guess I'm just wanting to buy a new gun......I think it's been a month or two. Anyway, I'm down to 3. The Beretta A300, Win SX3, & Weatherby SA-08. All in a wood stock, which is a must for this gun, although it does limit my options in the price range. I can have the beretta for about $675,the SX3 for $850, and the weatherby for $575. I know which way I'm leaning, what would you go with?

I've never shot the Beretta or the Weatherby but I do have the SX3 and wouldn't trade it for anything. I use it for everything ranging from doves to turkeys. No matter what load I put into it, it always ends with a Boom.

Re: New "backup" gun
I'd have to go with the SX3 as well. Mine has never failed to function, no matter what i put through it.
Thanks,

Re: New "backup" gun
Probably like you put my guns through more of a living hell than anyone and either know I have had MORE than enough problems with my two X2s and have thrown them across fields.. With that said I would pick the X3 hands down with the fixes I have found.. I have put my X2 with the mods against Benellis, H&Ks, Berettas etc and there is simply no comparison I cannot make the gun quit.. 2 cases when I first made the fix had mud in the action and the gun still shucked shells 20 feet..
If I were buying a new autoloader today it would be an X3.. I would send the Piston out before I shot it to be sealed and would rock it till I thought I needed a sure cycle or a Wolff Xp spring..

Dang Whacker are you sure it's been a month....? I know where a fellow can get a good deal on a 3" Stoeger M3000 with Max 4 and a 26" barrel. I know it's not wood but I figured I'd just throw that in there for you....

Ok....3-1/2 weeks.KPcalls wrote: Dang Whacker are you sure it's been a month....? I know where a fellow can get a good deal on a 3" Stoeger M3000 with Max 4 and a 26" barrel. I know it's not wood but I figured I'd just throw that in there for you....
I may hafta hit you up. For the right price, it wouldn't matter all that much. I'm not in a huge hurry or anything, I have a few O/U's as backup, but really don't like em in the duck blind. And I can't remember to pump a pump gun. If I decide to go with the SX3 I'm gonna watch classifieds for a good used one to save a few bucks. It's not that much more than the Beretta, but it will be a backup to my SBE2. So, I almost hate to spend nearly 1k on a gun that isn't gonna get much play (but I don't want a POS either). That's the only reason I would lean more tword the Beretta. But then again, the SX3 is only 200 more bones. I've basically ruled out the Weatherby.

And once you feel the soft recoiling gas gun the SBE will be shelved.Waddle Whacker wrote:Ok....3-1/2 weeks.KPcalls wrote: Dang Whacker are you sure it's been a month....? Few years back Sal and I were goose hunting a field.. Thought it was over for the night.. She went to get the truck and trailer.. I was walking around in the decoys starting to pick up and heard honk.. I dove for the first blind which happened to be Sals.. Grabbed her M1 and managed to double.. SOB it is night and day difference.. I do not know how she handles that thing.. When we have a good weekend she has a bruise.el diablo wrote: What I was thinking!

Re: New "backup" gun
Nah. It is a noticeable difference, I agree, but I'm good with it. I went from an Extrema 2, with kickoff, to a SBE2, so I already know the difference in felt recoil. In fact, it was one of the reasons I went with the Extrema in the first place. After shooting my dad's SBE a good bit, I finally came to the realization that the SBE just fit me much better, therefore.... I shot it better. Had I put more rounds thru the gun to start with, I would not have owned the Extrema. The SBE2 fits me as well as or better than any auto loader I have ever shouldered (the m2 20 aint half bad either). For me, that outweighed the increase in felt recoil. I would really like my backup to be a gas gun, though. It will likely see more time on the sporting clay's courses, where I prefer a softer recoiling gun.ICDEDTURKES wrote: And once you feel the soft recoiling gas gun the SBE will be shelved.

Re: New "backup" gun
I'd definitely go with the SX3 at that price, $775 ain't too shabby. I slipped up and accidentally let the wife get wind of the new gun purchase idea. She wasn't overly impressed with my plans. I hate to admit it, but she may be slightly correct on this one. I mean, I do have a newborn. I'll just put it on the back burner for now. She didn't say no, just asked me to wait until she gets back to work. I can deal with that, it's fair. I'll get something in a few months.KPcalls wrote:Whacker, don't forget Winchester still has a 75.00 rebate on autoloaders until the 15th of this month....
Thanks for all the input guys! I think when the time comes, I'll go with the SX3.

Re: New "backup" gun
My ole buddy bought the A400 last year to turkey hunt with. It has that beautiful wood stock and a green colored receiver...says he bought it because some ammo, maker from Missouri said it was producing some of the best numbers....IDK. I wasn't going to spend that kind of money on a turkey gun period.
