Old knife
Seems to be a few pretty knowledgeable people around here. This is an old knife, appears to be all damascus steel and buffalo horn grips. Its and odd design and has an interesting inlay in handle. Handmade maybe? It was gifted to me by a 94 year old turkey hunter who said he has had it too long to r...

So ... ANOTHER old SXS
Picked this up at a flea market in Ohio many moons ago. It came with a verbal provenance by the seller that it was some sort of old limited edition state model (someone scratched OH on a brass plate in the butt stock  ) none of which I believe. These old hardware store guns are pretty cool but...

Re: Another Old SxS
Very cool old gun! Looks to be in decent shape. Love those deeply stained grips from countless hours of sweaty dirty hands. LOL! Likely made in Birmingham England. It was a hot spot for the gunmakers during that time. I have an old one very similar. Made by Richards (not Wesley). I will try to find ...

Re: Bobwhite SxS sights
Curious about this. Been wanting a bobwhite in 20 ga for a while. Well along came a 28 ga so it found a home. Not sure if its just a dove gun or other uses at this point. Maybe another safe queen.

Re: Maui on fire?
It must be pretty bad out there. Turkey hunting is on the big island not Maui. Although there is (was) a reported huntable turkey population on Maui. There was a gentleman (last year I think) collecting signatures to propose to the fish and game there to open a season Maui.

Re: You don’t like pistol grips???
That magpul looks interesting. Didn't like the sureshot type grips or thumbholes on anything I have shot much. Dont care for a pistol grip on small game or upland type birds. But I do LOVE my small gauge turkey guns with a pistol grip. I will admit they don't shoulder carry as nice but when it comes...

Re: Deer blind in the works
Put it on an old farm wagon or something cheap. About any axle with maypop tires would work. Pull it around with truck/atv/even a lawn mower. lol! Makes it mobile and does give you some small elevation. flip up or down windows with cheap plexiglass. I tried sliders but you only get half the opening.

Starting with a Carlsons is a good plan. It outshoots the IC 555 in my weatherby. Another overlooked and really solid choke is Pure Gold in .570

Re: Magnolia wood for calls?
Magnolia is very much like poplar in its wood quality and appearance. It can be used as such in call making and makes a great box call body. The heart wood closer to the center should be tighter grained and alittle harder. Its possible you might have a Tulip poplar. Many folks confuse the 2. Easy to...

Re: What wood for box call for SE
Turkeys are turkeys and like what they like. A good sounding call will probably work in ANY part of the country. I have a McKamey LB that easterns, oceolas and rios (merriams are next) have slopped up like sausage gravy! Its bloodwood over poplar. But back to the OP question .... the old school trad...
Re: My BPS
A BPS has always been one of the better patterning guns that I have played around with. JMO. Weight is relative to how you use it. Out there in the real world that gun will cover far more unexpected situations than many others. You do you and enjoy! Great looking setup!

I think I saw that bird once. I ran back to the truck wimpering like a little girl! I was undergunned, unprepared and plain old scared. If I remember right it had wolf like fangs too! Glad someone of quality took him out!

Re: Bore polishing
I polished the bores in my turkey guns for years and saw an improvement in pattern density and consistency. I did not hone. Improvements by my experience was always less than 10%. After I switched to TSS the patterns were so radically better that polishing seemed to be irrelevant. I do still deep cl...
