Re: closest you've been....????
I sure hope you kill this gobbler, once and for all! And by the way my Mossberg 835 kicks like a Mule too!!! But what an awesome gun and you know, I only feel the kick when patterning the gun, never when shooting a bird!!!! Good hunting! Our season here in PA. doesn't until the last Saturday of the ...

Re: closest you've been....????
Have you tried a Tom decoy? I have had great success with those when the gobbler you're after notices the decoy they usually come over to investigate the "other" dominant bird in their area. I also try to put out some hen decoy's as well. I like your idea of just scratching in the leaves.....

Re: closest you've been....????
Is that truly the way you want to kill this gobbler? Ambush him right off the roost. Isn't the "hunt" about setting up, calling, luring him in...perhaps pulling him away from his own hens? That's what I call hunting! But it's whatever floats your boat! Good luck.

Re: Aim point of a Gobbler
I put the bead on the wattles where the feathers join the neck then squeeze off the shot. The pattern will hit the turkey in the head, neck and lower neck with this aim point! This is my opinion, what do you other guys think?

First Osceola is in the turkey vest!
Was in Florida for Bike Week and decided to do some turkey hunting in Volusia County. Went out this morning and did not hear a peep on the roost. Crow calls, owl hoots, even a fire engine in the distance and no shock gobbles. Moved to another area and after getting situated made a soft call on my sl...
