Re: GOBBLER NATION 2015 Turkey contest winners!!

I think a small contest with people that just like to participate is better than a bunch of teams where some never come back or show up. Next year if we get enough for a contest I think we will be more selective on teams. What is a must for any team is a captain, who will follow thru on his team in...

Re: It's looking like tag soup for me and the boy.

Some years back, arrived in Kansas the last 3 days of the season. The birds were so done breeding, they ran the opposite direction if you called. Knew where they roosted and what field they were going to. Set up by the field on the best route from roost, and filled my tags in 2 days. No calling, and...

Re: I got to thinking...

I have met a lot of people on the forums, and hunted with quite a few. Overall have ran across few I didn't like. There are those that hide their true nature for a while, but eventually it all comes out.

Re: Used To Be!

My son in law has one, but we have to bring a step stool for my wife to get into it. I had to hold onto the door getting out of it, or the fall was going to break an ankle. What a beast.

My wife's legs gave out a few years ago ending her hunting, and my hips/knees went this year ending my hunting. This is the first year I didn't get to hunt, and it was very tough, but you find new hobbies to keep you busy. My wife decided gardening was my new hobby.

Re: Finished on a good note

It happens. Hunting tough, limited Public Iowa land, it seems to be the norm way too often. So, I started to hunt out of state doing MUCH better. Try to increase your odds by working to get some good private land. Hopefully, you can have better luck at that, then I did in my state.

Re: Kansas success!

I have a large piece of private to hunt in Kansas, but kill all my birds on Public. Secret of hunting Kansas is to hunt the same area every year that has birds, and learn every piece of Public available. Some of the good areas the locals rip the signs down, so non locals don't know where it is at, e...

Re: My season in a nutshell

Forgot to mention the rocks. They are called cairns. Cairns have many meanings from marking property, pointing direction of travel, to spiritual with some American Indian tribes. I have seen many Cairns in Canada, and they are felt to bring good luck for those building them.

Re: My season in a nutshell

Lot of great memories with beautiful pictures included. As far as Oregon, it is always hard to hunt out of state for the first time. As big as the hunting area is there, you would think running across others hunters would be rare, but evidently not. Sounds like you ticked off the locals by being in ...

Get back up there, and get it done. We Iowans don't give up. We are stupid that way sometimes. Hate high winds the worse. I don't know if I have ever done that well with those conditions. Yeah, but I've got just enough Missouri left in me to find Kansas repulsive. Some years back I had a horr...

I have been very fortunate in my out if state hunts, driving my 2001 Mountaineer for many of these excursions. I always worried about having something going wrong, as I am on the road and ruining a trip I looked forward to all year. Hopefully it is an inexpensive fix, and they get you back in the hu...

Re: It's gotta happen soon!!

My son was having the same issue a couple of years ago, and about to eat a tag. Gave him my Tom decoy, and next day he filled his tag. It has bailed out my hunt a couple of times, when they refused to come into calls. Always carry it in my truck even though I seldom use it any more.

We actually only had a meal of Morels without anything else, and couldn't finish them all. At 2am my wife got up, and finished the left over Morels cold. LOL.
