Re: Patterned a Federal HW 7. Roughly 17 pellets over load.
Kinda makes you wonder what size pellets, etc were in there. I've got some that are shakey and some that are packed tight. Whatever it is, it sure smokes 'em to forty out of my 20 ga. I can't comment on pattern because I only ever shot it at fifty.

Re: 3" and smaller
Mr. Squealing Hen sure got it right on the Li'l Deuce! I keep one handy for my kids to play with when they ask to handle my other calls. I am going to have something real similar done up in an osage pot. That way I can use one without abandoning my snobbish sensibility. I think these 3" callers...

Re: Gas and miles driven during Georiga season
GLS, is that a turkey behind that hunter in your avatar? Whenever anyone asks me where to find a gobbler, I reply that sitting directly behind me is about the best spot in the woods. If that is available as a print, I'd appreciate a pointer to the source. I was hanging onto an old truck, but my wife...

The predator would have to fit down the air hole or dig them out to get at them. A beaver isn't exactly defenseless, either.

Re: Gobblers on the limb
Geebus. I don't think I heard 17 different gobblers gobble all total. Anyhow, I agree. Roost calling is low odds. I find I kill more by sticking to higher odds tactics and walking away from lower odds scenarios. If I mess up and get a response from the limb when I was thinking it'd flown down, I cus...

This site is a treasure trove of information. I have learned a lot about shotgun loads I would not have anywhere else just by reading old threads.

There is at least one thread on here about this already. The general consensus is don't call to turkeys before they fly down.

Re: Alpha Burley Pro 18" Boots
Bass Pro Redhead brand was my choice after giving up on LaCrosse quality. Thing about Bass Pro is the Redhead brand is an exchange at the counter warranty. I have not tried it yet, but I've seen people exchange Redhead items that were just worn out from normal use. Clearly this is most helpful if yo...

On another note, a buddy of mine bought me a bino strap that holds them in the middle of your chest. I thought to myself...........junk, just gonna get in the way. Well, I was wrong, it's a must and it makes your binos very accessible. Kevin They also work well for keeping a call organizer handy.

Congrats on the bird and thanks for the chuckle. Truth is what makes those birds so tough is its usually two of them working together to mess with you. Sometimes three!

Re: Need a fresh idea for these birds. They come in & don't
Might be a symptom of overcalling or setting up where they can see you before coming in range, but that's just conjecture. If you know where he's going, tell him to assemble at the high point. Be there to greet him. You have to know where the meeting spot is, though. Funniest thing happened to me th...

Re: Looking for a box call and aluminum pot call
There's still one on there. Anyhow, if you have time it might be best to try some before buying. What suits one person might not always suit another. There's some well regarded box call makers whose calls I, having tried them first hand, don't think much of. My opinion only counts for me. Other peop...

Re: T10s?
That's something! The single I have appears to need to be dirty, but not too dirty. These .410s are riding the edge, I guess. A shot trap is next before another gun for me. About T10s vs T9.5s: I got in a couple more pounds of 9.5s yesterday. A pellet from both the first pound I got and these latest...

Re: T10s?
Well, that takes care of that. The 9.5s I have measure in diameter as the same as lead 9.5s. I went by this chart: http://www.hallowellco.com/shot_size_chart.htm If 10s are 420/oz vs 9/5s at 365/oz, then I'd expect to get maybe an extra 10 in the 10" ring. I only got ~80 in the 10 when I tried ...

You won't get the croaks and chirps right without a call tuned for it. You can get in the general area, but when you're trying to match a bird or sound like one he knows, you need a properly tuned caller.

I went to Mike Batteys Wildtalker game calls website, and can't for the life of me figure out how to actually buy one of his crow calls. Does anyone have a contact e-mail or phone number for him? Last time I had an exchange with him was through facebook. This is not a comment on crow call...
