Re: Where'd that come from

Not unusual anymore. The result of someone's "miss". Always bugs me to watch the tv guys take a marginal shot (usually extreme range), have the bird fly off, and then hear " that was a clean miss". IMO there are very few truly clean misses. At the very least the bird is carrying ...

Re: Mexico - Goulds Hunts

Jim Shockeys Book Your Hunt site still has several available. I seem to remember from year's past that by this time during a year the Goulds hunts were sold out. Might be a lot rethinking Mexico. My passport's expired anyway. LOL.

Mexico - Goulds Hunts

I have a long bucket list so a Goulds hunt is on it. With Mexico's cartel problems heavily covered in the nation news I think I may be very reluctant to travel there now. Opinions?

Re: Florida Opener

Since Florida now requires turkey kills to be reported I wonder if FWC will give any harvest updates throughout the season? Anyone heard? I know with systems such as Kentucky's I can see daily updates state wide.

Re: Florida Opener

I often receive, and respond to, private messages concerning Florida's public land turkey opportunities. My reply normally starts with "having lived and hunted in multiple states there is no state harder to hunt than Florida. This NPS decision to conduct a large burn at the start of turkey seas...

Re: Florida Opener

Update - our 4:30pm local news is reporting brush fires in multiple locations in south Florida. Based on past practice I wouldn't be surprised if some WMAs are given an emergency closure. We'll see what happens.

Re: Florida Opener

Still hot and very windy. Two active brush fires in my immediate area. If you are walking deep into any of the WMAs have an alternate route out.
Yes the best time to hunt the south zone is after the north zone opens.

Re: field dressing your turkey

I often gut them if it is a long walk back to the truck as much for cooling as weight. The actions described in the original post might not be legal in many places. A detached beard might be looked at suspiciously by a LEO if accompanying a dismembered bird. Spurs might help though.

Didn't want this topic to fade before adding mine. Bought new in 2005. Standard cab, no frills, auto and air. I use it for anything. Now has 185,000. Seldom check anymore but normally gets around 23mpg. BTW - went to 100% full synthetic oil at first oil change so it's been well cared for.

Re: Pulled for FL Youth Quota

There is an ongoing post on floridasportsman.com that mentions the WMA you are going to hunt. Easy to find in the Hunting section (South Proposed Regs). I am acquainted with a guy who's daughter drew this youth hunt also. I'll mention this post to him. Good luck.

Re: Florida WMA Quota Hunts 2023

2023 will be the first year of actual mandatory reporting of turkey harvest. That may be an eye opener. We'll see. Still plenty of holes in the quota system since many of the WMAs with quota hunts don't have check stations. The one I hunted this spring as a guest hunter didn't even have a drop box. ...

Re: Weather in northern KY/ southern OH

Little late in the response. Born in OH and lived in KY so know both pretty well. A rainy spell will be your biggest problem. I would not hesitate to tent camp in either state during the periods you listed. Ticks will be a concern as well as early morning mosquitoes. I would treat my clothes and car...

Re: Rules on gun sales in classifieds?

Over the years I have sold a few small things on these forums usually from someone requesting a certain item. If a firearm I would personally never ship out of state. These transaction for me would always have to be face to face cash sales. Not worth the risk otherwise.

Always like these threads. I retired in 1995 and almost immediately moved from central Ohio to western Kentucky. We had purchased a lake front lot on Kentucky Lake many year's prior when it was affordable. We stayed there nine years and while the Lake was great as was LBL everything else was a trade...
