Iowa State Fair

We lives less than a mile from the Fair, and yesterday was unreal. All the streets within a mile of the Fair were jammed with cars parking. Fair had all the big time politicians that are running for President campaigning. Trump brought in his helicopter, and instead of giving speeches flew the kids ...

Salsa

Marsha canned up like 13 jars of Salsa Monday, and we have 3 gone already, so we will be canning another batch. We did 3 smaller batches last year, which was good, but she tweaked it again, and wham we have a winner. Stuff is some kind of addictive, where you can't stop eating it. Luckily, we have h...

Re: Anyone Ready For Football?

Just like last year, following my Patriots, Iowa Hawkeyes, and for High School the Waukee Warriors. Hoping my grandson gets a scholarship, like his brother for College, and this is his senior year, so needs a good year without getting hurt. Love my football.

Re: Lost another friend last night.

It is tough losing 2 good friends in a short period of time, but at my age, not unexpected. I supplied Toad with a lot of Turkey wings over the years for his calls, and he was always appreciative. I saw him about a month ago, when he was doing one of his many garage sales, but we didn't talk about t...

Lost another friend last night.

Years ago I met a friend of a friend at my restaurant, who was wearing a cap with a NWTF emblem. I said, I have been looking for you, and he looked back at me kind of confussed. I need to learn how to Turkey Hunt, and I think you are the man to teach me. He laughed, and said, yes I am, and so starte...

Re: Independence Day

We celebrate Independence day, and the 4th of July in our family, being 4th was my Birthday. Good day, except the local fireworks display sucked. Friends went to another one close buy, that exploded. Other friends went to one that had technical difficulties, so Des Moines bombed on the fireworks.

I finally threw it away.

My favorite hoodie finally left my crammed closet to its end. Sad moment. Accompanied me on many of my Turkey trips, and then wore it in the complete remodel of my home. I bought it originally many years ago at a Iowa Buck Classic, and never saw another like it since. Had Turkey State with picture o...

Congrats on the retirement. I found out I have plenty to do at home, but I sure don't bust butt to get it done. Biggest change for me was finances. Dang, its tough living on social security, without a pension to help.

Re: Kindness of strangers.

We are all focused on our own lives, and it is easy to overlook where we should be helping another. Marsha and myself have a great supporting family, who will be there if we have a need, but sadly many people do not have that luxury. I believe there are organizations out there, who will help seniors...

Re: I hate ticks!

Another thing I did was wear treated top and bottom under armor under my clothes, which made it almost impossible to get to my skin. Would pull my treated socks over the under armor also. Even treat my hat, since I had one go from my hat to my neck once.

Re: I hate ticks!

Buy a quart of premethrin at co-op, it's like $6 and will last a lifetime. Mix 2 cap fulls in a 2 liter bottle and fill with water and treat your clothes  I don't get ticks, period. In the outdoors, I go with premethrin sprayed clothes, and never get ticks. Too many serious diseases sprout...

Re: GOBBLER NATION 2015 Turkey contest winners!!

I once knew a man that didn't post very much. He didn't come close to the minimums to get in a contest. He was a good man that just needed a break. Well that man got his break and went on to increase his posting and make many friends in the Turkey hunting world. Thank goodness we didn't have minimu...

When I had the money to do it, could only find the time off of work for more than around 10 days, which limited hunting to a few states. Then retired and didn't have the money to do it. :dontknow:
