Stout is fine in a beer; not so much in a 5.5 lb gun.

I’m sure Hal’s new load will be a smashing hit.

Re: Barrel length

It depends. A 3 1/2" gun with a 28" barrel and a long turkey choke gets kinda long. I like a 28" barrel on a break action or 26" on pump or auto. What howl said... A 28” barrel on a break action (single or double) ain’t so bad. A 28” barrel fitted to the receiver of a pump or se...

Woods on those 2 areas are fine. Richloam tends to be wet. Irma added to that. Ocala is high and dry.

Can’t speak from experience on Ocala. Can on Richloam and Disney World.

I recommend going to Disney World first. It will help prepare you for the crowds at Richloam.

Re: Managing the turkeys on my new land

Sounds like you gotta sweet setup. Can you have “too many turkeys?” In a word, hell to the no (who’s counting words?). At least not too many for hunting purposes in Mississippi. Good as your setup is with 1000 acs, you’re still dependent on neighbors. No guarantees what you’re seeing during deer sea...

Re: 20 ga. 1-5/8 TSS vs. Same in 12 ga.

I shoot 1&5/8 from my 12 ga Beretta 586 UL (listed at 5 lb 14 oz, but mine actually weighs 6.75 with B-Square Cantilever rib mount, FF II, and sling). As others have said, the shot string will be shorter from a 12 vs a 20 with equal payload weight, but that is a non-issue with a stationary targ...

20 ga. 1-5/8 TSS vs. Same in 12 ga.

I see post after post extolling the virtues of TSS in sub gauges. Believe me, I get it. It's what I do too. What I don't understand are those that blanketly deride use of TSS in the big bores. It's most often characterized as "wasteful" or "overkill." If you're slinging 2 or more...

Hatfield 410 with TSS???

Can't seem to find a Yildiz locally, but Wally World has a single shot, Turkish-made Hatfield .410 for $99. From what I can tell, it sports a 28" barrel and has a fixed modified choke. Anybody here got any first-hand experience or even good guesses as to how well it might pattern some 9.5 or 10...

Private Lands >90% (75%) Public Lands <10% (20%) Crowded Club 1-2% (5%) This would be even more informative if accompanied by % time spent hunting each. Then you could assess if kill ratios on each were proportional to effort, required more time, or less. My estimate of relative effort is in parenth...

There's probably some value to broadcast spreading corn, milo or some other energy-rich grain during the periods when hens are sitting on clutches of eggs. They'll take periodic recesses from incubation to void waste and to tank up on carbs. If they can access it and fill up quickly, they're money a...
