Re: What would you have done?

Doesn't appear to me that you or your son did anything wrong, he just didn't get the shot he wanted. It also appeared that the gobbler was never really confident that he should have been messing around there in the first place. My son, who is 12, has 3 deer seasons and 2 turkey seasons under his bel...

Re: favorite turkey call?

what call has been the most productive call in your vest? Besides mouth calls, I have four calls that never leave my vest. My Screamin Demon pot call, a wingbone yelper that I made a few years ago (wingbone mouth piece with a turned maple barrel), and two box calls. One, a Perfection box call that ...

Re: your view on guns & ownership.

Random thoughts I have: 1. There are already so many weapons like the kind used in Newtown out there that if you ban them, their value will skyrocket. Imagine what people will do to get one then. 2. People with bad intentions will do bad things with whatever is available. 3. If schools had only one ...

Virginia Youth Day hunt

Had an incredible morning with my son Jack and our good friend Avery on Youth Day! Several gobblers tried to attack a jake that was trying to do obscene things to the DSD hen decoy and Jack was able to get on one of the longbeards and spoil the party. It was truly a hunt we will never forget!! The b...

Re: Squatchin

First you need a Squatch locator...you could call it the Squat-n-Howl. Think I saw CamoMan doing that during deer season??? Said something about his belly hurtin' but I think he had some kinda prototype call he was workin' on. :D Don't forget the Squealin' Squatch...that should bring one running in!...

Re: 2 Vs 1

I think it depends on how much you hunt with said partner. I imagine once you hunt with someone long enogh, you get to know what eachother is gonna do in most situations and it becomes more and more comfortable. As in any relationship, there would have to be trust and that has to be earned over tim...

Re: Thrill

I always find it interesting to compare stories of the hunt when hunting with a partner. Two people taking part in the hunt will often have different takes on the events of that hunt. I do find that I hunt more conservatively when hunting with someone vs. hunting alone. Sometimes that's a good thing...

Re: Arrogance..

I think that arrogance is all relative to where you're huntin' 'em. If a fella has a honey hole or two that no one else is hunting then he is gonna be fairly successful whether he is a great turkey hunter or not. That success leads to the arrogance. Put a great hunter on heavily hunted land and he w...

Re: Sunday hunting hits dead end in house

Anyone who puts limitations on the things we enjoy in life allows for our rights to become priviledges. We do not have any rights in this country. Think about it. And the people let this happen. Sad Sad Sad. You had the right to speak your mind. ;) And the people did let that happen. :thumbleft: Th...

Re: Different

That's the million dollar question...what makes a gobbler commit to calling? An example I have is a buddy and I were calling to 4 gobblers 150 yards out in a pasture. We could see them with 2 hens. After 20 minutes of being rudely ignored calling to them on a raspy mouth call I flipped over the call...

Re: Strutter Vs Looker

I would shoot the looker. He might be the looker because he has had his butt whipped for gobbling when he shouldn't have. It might take him a few days to figure out he is allowed to gobble if the strutter is gone. Whereas the strutter is obviously in love with himself and would likely gobble the nex...

Re: More or less

I think there are as many or more turkeys now than there has ever been. I also believe that in some areas turkeys don't gobble like they did 20-25 years ago. Think of it in deer hunting terms. In an area that has an abundant doe population, big buck sightings are rare. In an area with a balanced her...
