I would be happy with a group like that! Look out gobblers!

Re: Remington® Model 870 SPS Super Mag Turkey vs Turkey/Predator

I have an old school Remington 870 with no choke but long barrel. It will be interesting to compare patterns once I get a new one with shorter barrel and a choke.

Re: Spur length and Turkey age

From what I've been told, Merriams that live in rocky country possibly wear spurs down on rock. I've yet to harvest a mtn merriam in rocky country with very long spurs. The same merriam that lives in someone's back yard may not wander into the rocks much so I'm guessing he'd have possibly longer spu...

Re: Remington® Model 870 SPS Super Mag Turkey vs Turkey/Predator

For those that have experience with the shorter 870's....have you done pattern tests at 40+ yards with the standard chock that comes with them vs other chokes...or longer barreled 870's? It would be interesting to know if there actually was much difference. Thanks to those that have offered advice!

Re: Good large cooler

I have a coleman extreme marine that's a great cooler for the price! They matched it up against Yeti and others and was actually pretty close. Look up cooler ice test on youtube to see for yourself! I had 6 toms in mine with ice on a week trip this year. Daytime temps were around 80 to 85 and night ...

Re: Remington® Model 870 SPS Super Mag Turkey vs Turkey/Predator

Does anyone have experience with either of these shotguns and have any idea on how they actually pattern? I've done some searches and haven't found a whole lot. I watched a youtube video with a guy that shot the 20" barrel at 40 yards with the standard choke that comes with it and it had a pret...

Remington® Model 870 SPS Super Mag Turkey vs Turkey/Predator

I noticed Remington has 2 similar 870 Super Mags. One is the turkey and the other turkey/predator. The turkey has a 23" barrel and the other has only a 20" barrel. Does anyone have any experience with either of these. I would think the 23" may hold a little tighter group at 40+ yards?...

Re: Midwest turkey decline

Here in the Front Range in Colo we have coyotes, mtn lions, bobcats, and black bears that make a quick meal of noisy turkeys. In fact, I called in a black bear a couple years ago with a turkey call and actually had to wave my arms to keep him from jumping on me! I watched a coyote this year while tu...

Re: Convenient hearing protection while hunting

I would actually be more inclined wearing ear magnifiers so I can here gobbles and purrs from long distance rather than ear protection! If toms or hens are just out of sight over a ridge I often hear toms drumming or hens purring or making other noises before I ever see them. I don't know how many t...

Midwest turkey decline

I hunted gobblers in Nebraska and S Dakota this year. It appeared that bird numbers were a chunk lower than they've been in recent years. In fact, I would say they are around 1/3 what they were a couple years ago. I heard the same is true in Kansas. Has anyone else noticed the dramatic decline in tu...

Re: Merriams vs easterns?

Depending upon predators..... time of year and mood of the merriams don't be surprised if they don't make a peep once they fly down off the roost. There are so many predators where I hunt that I hardly hear any turkeys all day long. They've figured out if they make noise they get eaten! This can mak...

Re: Standing Rock Indian reservation

I hunted the Standing Rock a couple weeks ago. I'm not sure if I'll return. There were 2 to 4 guys hunting the same drainage I was hunting that had the few turkeys I saw where it was open to public. From everyone I spoke to turkey numbers were way down from previous years. It was also a pain in the ...

Re: Stakeout blind

I've been looking for something that is quicker and lighter to set up than a regular portable blind. A popup blind would be nice but doesn't tend to blend into the surroundings like a ghostblind. From what I've heard there is no sun glare with the ghostblind. The sheets are pointed at an angle towar...

Re: Stakeout blind

I just found a new type of blind that I don't see advertised very often. It's called Ghostbind. It actually uses mirrors to reflect images of the immediate surroundings. I was a bit scepticle until I did a search and hardly found anyone that tried them that did't rave about them. I was so impressed ...

Stakeout blind

I'm already getting excited about spring turkeys..must have cabin fever! Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has had success with stakeout blinds? It seems like they would be great for "run and gun" style hunting.....super light, less bulk than a full blind, and set up quick. Do you have a c...

Re: Turkey Eyesight

I returned from my 2nd turkey trip last week. Found out that turkeys have just as keen eyesight as many big game animals I have hunted. The turkeys I was hunting tended to spook when walking out in the open 3/4 to 1 mile away with no brush for conceilment. I could barely pick them out as black speck...

Re: Turkey Eyesight

I've been hunting elk, antelope, mtn goat, sheep, and deer for years but am new to turkey hunting. Pretty much all big game species "tend to have" a lot better eyes than humans (bears and moose among others excluded) and I try to stay off the skyline and behind hills when ever possible. Ev...
