Re: Good large cooler

Where I have seen it, it was in a separate cooler or cabinet. Our Ingle's has it by the front door. Probably just have to ask.

Re: Good large cooler

I have a 5-day for my boat cooler. I put a frozen jug in the night before and it'll still be partially frozen the next night. That's one gallon in an otherwise empty cooler overnight and then covered in fish the next day. The fishy smell cleans out with bleach just fine. The youtube says the 6-day v...

Re: Apex vs Federal TSS?

I read Bart Jacobs' book recently. Those A5s look good in the turkey woods. I think the answer to your query is the same old one. Buy both and try them.

Re: Apex vs Federal TSS?

The Federal wad looks like it's a surer bet to put between the TSS and your Belgium Browning barrel.

Re: Hens at greatly varied stages of the reproduction season

Over the past few years I have noticed more late born gobblers than I have ever seen. I have been calling up short beards and letting them go because they did not show a full fan or at least gobble while I was looking at them. It stands to reason there would be late born hens, too. I know sounding l...

Re: If you think your calling sucks....

Sounding like a popular type of caller is bad news for a hen if it wants to assemble any turkeys. Usually they sound like a box call, slate or glass pot, or mouth call with no rollover. I have seen hens that sounded like a box call or a glass pot chasing after gobblers while the gobblers headed away...

Re: TSS Per Ounce Shot Count

What I posted was my best guess based on posts made across the web. Which is to say I never measured or counted anything. There are for sure different numbers given from different sources for a nominal shot size of a nominal density.

TX Rio rec.s please

I'm looking for suggestions on where to book a group of four, for semi-guided TX Rios on a weekend hunt. We're looking for $250-300/day with lodging. Thanks.

Re: How was your season?

Bird numbers are up a little from a few years ago when they were near impossible to find. The pressure increased to a level I had not seen outside of FL and stayed high with out of town hunters throughout the season.

Re: Convenient hearing protection while hunting

Long barrels with light payloads at standard velocity make a difference to me. Several companies make a version of the Allen Sound Sensor. You can hear well enough to detect a deer walking in dry leaves at 40 yards. A buck chasing a doe at 100 yards is more of a general commotion than easily identif...

Re: .410 Payloads

There's only so much you can put in the appropriate wad.

You can do 7/8oz out of a 5# 20 gauge. .410 and 28ga seems to me to be more about the size of the guns than the shells in them.

That and recoil pads. If earlier version had a thin butt pad, then that big hunk of rubber on the one I weighed would account for a difference.

Re: .410 brass and powder migration

This brings up questions about chamber dimensions and hull expansion. Is anyone running these through a sizing die? The two .410s I fired them in had noticeably different dimensions after forming to the chamber.

I only have a few left loaded, so I'll tear them down and check.

Stevens 555 28ga 26" 5.1# Others have reported those as lighter, but that's what I got on the scale.

There are more pellets in 13/16oz T10s than 1.5oz heavyweight 7s or 1.75oz lead #5s.

Re: hearing enhancement

Sort of on topic is how you lose your hearing. You don't necessary lose it over the whole spectrum like turning down the volume. Hearing loss due to gunfire and gun stock vibration, for instance, is high frequency loss. You'll still hear the gobbles, they just won't sound like gobbles and may not ca...

Re: Turkey Vest info...

I like vests, but they're too hot for most of the season. I use a call organizer hung from a binocular harness. The seat pad hangs from belt by a carabiner. I have put a small pad hung off the leather piece on the back of the harness. It'll fan your back as you walk. HS Strut came out with a similar...

Re: .410 Bore Booger Source

I don't understand bore snakes. How are you supposed to get a clean barrel using something that is always dirty after the first time you use it? When solvent melts wad buildup it turns into slime. I don't see how a bore snake will ever get all that out. Looks to me like it just built up enough that ...
